# Social Content

> Planning and writing organic social content — choosing platforms by audience, building content pillars and a posting cadence, writing hooks, adapting format per platform, repurposing one idea across channels, and measuring with engagement/saves/shares rather than likes. Use when the user wants a content calendar, help writing posts/threads/captions, a hook for a video, a repurposing plan, or asks "what should I post" / "why is my engagement flat." Keywords social media, organic content, content calendar, content pillars, hook, X thread, LinkedIn post, short-form video, Reels, TikTok, engagement rate, repurposing, posting cadence.

# Social Content

Organic social is a compounding asset, not a campaign. The job isn't "post more" — it's to be
worth following. One genuinely useful or interesting idea, adapted per platform, beats five
generic posts. Reach is downstream of the hook and the value; everything else is logistics.

## Pick platforms by where your audience already is

Don't be everywhere. Two channels you post well beat five you post badly.

| Platform        | Audience / strength                       | Content that works                          |
| --------------- | ----------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| X / Twitter     | Tech, builders, real-time, discourse      | Threads, hot takes, build-in-public, replies |
| LinkedIn        | B2B, professionals, decision-makers       | Personal-voice posts, lessons, mini case studies |
| Instagram | Consumer, visual, lifestyle | Reels, carousels, aesthetic |
| TikTok          | Broad + young, discovery-driven           | Short video, trends, raw/authentic > polished |
| YouTube         | Intent + evergreen, searchable            | Long-form + Shorts; compounds for years     |

Match the platform to *both* your audience and the format you can sustainably produce. If you can't shoot video, don't anchor your strategy on TikTok.

## Content pillars + cadence

**Pillars** = 3–5 recurring themes you own, so you're never staring at a blank page. A common mix:

- **Educational** (~40%) — teach something useful; the backbone of authority.
- **Inspirational/story** (~20%) — lessons, behind-the-scenes, build-in-public.
- **Engaging** (~20%) — questions, hot takes, polls; spark replies.
- **Promotional** (~20% MAX) — your product/offer. Earn the right with the other 80%.

Map each pillar to a recurring slot so the calendar plans itself.

**Cadence over volume.** Consistency the algorithm can rely on beats sporadic bursts. Sustainable-but-regular wins; pick a frequency you can hold for months.

### Weekly cadence template

```
Mon  Educational   — how-to / framework / "here's how we do X"
Tue  Engaging      — question or hot take to drive replies
Wed  Story         — behind-the-scenes / a lesson learned / build-in-public
Thu  Educational   — myth-bust / common mistake / mini case study
Fri  Promotional   — soft CTA, social proof, offer (the ONE promo of the week)
Wkd  Repurpose     — re-share/remix a past winner; engage in others' threads
```

Batch-produce: write a week in one sitting, schedule it, then spend daily time on *replies and engagement* — which the algorithm rewards more than the post itself.

## Hooks — win or lose in the first line / 3 seconds

The hook is 80% of performance. If the first line doesn't stop the scroll, nothing after it matters. Make it specific, create an open loop, or promise a concrete payoff.

- **Specific > vague:** "We cut churn 40% by changing one email" beats "Some thoughts on retention."
- **Open a loop:** raise a question the post answers; don't resolve it in line one.
- **Lead with the payoff or the contrarian take**, not throat-clearing ("I've been thinking lately about...").
- **Video:** the visual + first spoken line in 3 seconds. Show motion or the payoff immediately; no logo intros.

### Hook bank

```
"Most people get [X] completely wrong. Here's what actually works:"
"I spent [time/money] on [thing] so you don't have to. 5 lessons:"
"Unpopular opinion: [contrarian take]."
"[Impressive specific result]. Here's exactly how:"
"Stop doing [common practice]. Do this instead:"
"The [N] mistakes that cost me [consequence]:"
"Nobody talks about this, but [insight]:"
"[Common belief] is a myth. The data says [surprise]:"
"How to [desirable outcome] without [common pain]:"
"I analyzed [N examples]. Here's the pattern:"
```

Hooks are templates, not crutches — the specificity you fill in is what makes them land. A generic fill ("5 marketing tips") kills even a great template.

## Format per platform

Same idea, different shape. Never cross-post identical text — it reads as lazy and the native format always outperforms.

- **X thread:** hook tweet stands alone and earns the click. One idea per tweet, short lines, a takeaway every few. Last tweet = CTA or summary. 5–15 tweets.
- **LinkedIn post:** first 2 lines before the "...see more" fold are the hook. Short paragraphs (1–2 lines), generous whitespace, a personal/story frame. ~1,300 chars. End with a question to drive comments. No external links in-body (the algorithm suppresses them — put links in the first comment).
- **Short-form video (Reels/TikTok/Shorts):** hook in 3s, 15–60s, captions burned in (most watch muted), one idea, fast cuts, clear payoff, native trends/sound where it fits.
- **Carousel (IG/LI):** slide 1 = hook, one point per slide, last slide = CTA. High save rate.

## Repurpose one idea across channels

Create once at the highest-effort format, then atomize down. The "content waterfall":

```
1 long-form piece (video / blog / podcast)
   ├─ → X thread (the key points)
   ├─ → LinkedIn post (one angle, personal frame)
   ├─ → 2–3 short video clips (best moments)
   ├─ → carousel (the framework/list)
   └─ → individual quote/stat graphics + standalone posts
```

This is how a real cadence gets sustainable — one idea becomes a week of platform-native posts. Repurpose proven *winners* especially; a hit deserves a second life in three formats.

## Measuring — engagement quality over vanity

Likes are the weakest signal. Sort by what indicates real value and intent to return.

| Signal                | Means                                    | Weight |
| --------------------- | ---------------------------------------- | ------ |
| Saves / bookmarks     | "I'll need this again" — strongest value | High   |
| Shares / reposts | "Worth my reputation to pass on" | High |
| Comments (real ones)  | Sparked a conversation                   | High   |
| Watch time / retention| Video held attention                     | High   |
| Profile visits / follows | Content converted strangers to audience | High |
| Likes                 | Mild approval, cheap                     | Low    |
| Impressions / reach | Distribution, not value (vanity alone) | Low |

- **Engagement rate** = (meaningful interactions ÷ reach), tracked over time — not a single post's like count.
- **The real funnel metric:** follower growth + profile→link clicks + the conversions social drives downstream (use UTMs on bio/post links). Organic social mostly seeds the top of the funnel — judge it on audience growth and assisted conversions, not last-click sales.
- Double down on what your *own* analytics say works — find your top 5 posts of the quarter and make more like them. Your audience's taste beats any general best-practice.

## Quick checklist

```
[ ] 2–3 platforms chosen by where the audience actually is
[ ] 3–5 content pillars defined; ≤20% promotional
[ ] Sustainable weekly cadence set and batch-produced
[ ] Every post leads with a real hook (specific / open loop / payoff)
[ ] Format is native to each platform — no identical cross-posts
[ ] One core idea repurposed into 3+ platform-native pieces
[ ] Links handled per platform (LinkedIn: first comment)
[ ] Measuring saves/shares/comments + follower growth, not just likes
[ ] Daily engagement time blocked (replies, not just posting)
```
