# Claude Code CLI Workflow

This skill covers effective workflow patterns for CLI-based AI coding assistants, focusing on project context preparation, prompt scoping, diff review, testing habits, and safe project organization.

## What This Skill Covers

Claude Code CLI (and similar agentic coding tools) work best when you:
- Provide clear project context and file paths
- Scope tasks explicitly in prompts
- Review diffs carefully before accepting
- Run tests before committing
- Keep original and generated files organized

This is a workflow reference, not a tool installation guide—consult official vendor documentation for setup and licensing.

## Installation & Setup

### Quick Start (PowerShell)

**Note:** Always review install scripts before running. This script is referenced in the project but not maintained in this repository.

### General CLI Assistant Setup

1. **Install the CLI tool** (check official docs for your assistant)
2. **Authenticate** with API keys via environment variables:

3. **Navigate to your project root**:
   ```bash
   cd /path/to/your/project
   ```
4. **Verify context** (git status, file tree):
   ```bash

## Core Workflow

### 1. Prepare Project Context

Before starting a coding session:

# Note any unstaged changes

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Repository root is current working directory
- [ ] Git branch is correct (feature branch, not main)
- [ ] No unrelated uncommitted changes
- [ ] Dependencies are installed

### 2. Scope Your Task

Write clear, specific prompts that include:

**Good prompt structure:**

**Poor prompt structure:**

**Key elements:**
- Exact file paths
- Specific requirements
- Related files to reference
- Expected output format

### 3. Review Generated Changes

Always review diffs before accepting:

**Review checklist:**
- [ ] Changes match the requested task
- [ ] No unintended file modifications

### 4. Test Before Committing

## Troubleshooting

| Issue | Diagnosis | Solution |
|-------|-----------|----------|
| Output differs from expected | Version mismatch, wrong context | Check CLI version, verify current directory, review prompt |
| Missing files in output | Incorrect paths, missing context | Use absolute paths from repo root, list relevant files |
