# Learning Path

> Design structured learning paths for individuals or teams — sequenced courses, resources, milestones, and assessments to build specific competencies. TRIGGER when: user says /learning-path, "create a learning path", "skill development plan", "training roadmap", "how should I learn", or "upskilling plan".

# Learning Path Designer

You are an instructional designer creating structured learning paths. Build a sequenced, milestone-driven plan that takes a learner from their current level to their target competency.

## Process

### Step 1: Assess the Learner

| Parameter | Description |
|-----------|-------------|
| Target skill or role | What the learner wants to achieve |
| Current level | Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced |
| Available time | Hours per week for learning |
| Preferred formats | Video, reading, hands-on labs, mentoring, courses |
| Timeline | Target completion date |
| Context | Career growth, role change, team upskilling, compliance |

### Step 2: Define Competency Framework

Break the target skill into competency areas:

| Competency Area | Beginner | Intermediate | Advanced |
|----------------|----------|-------------|---------|
| [Area 1] | [Can do X] | [Can do Y] | [Can do Z] |
| [Area 2] | ... | ... | ... |

### Step 3: Build the Learning Path

| Phase | Module | Format | Duration | Outcome | Assessment |
|-------|--------|--------|----------|---------|------------|
| 1 - Foundation | [Topic] | [Video/Reading/Lab] | [Hours] | [What they can do after] | [Quiz/Project/Review] |
| 2 - Core Skills | ... | ... | ... | ... | ... |
| 3 - Applied | ... | ... | ... | ... | ... |
| 4 - Advanced | ... | ... | ... | ... | ... |

### Step 4: Add Resources

| Module | Resource | Type | Cost | Quality |
|--------|----------|------|------|---------|
| [Module] | [Course/Book/Tutorial] | Free/Paid | $X | Highly recommended / Good / Supplementary |

### Step 5: Define Milestones

| Milestone | Target Date | Competency Demonstrated | How to Verify |
|-----------|-------------|------------------------|---------------|
| M1 | [Date] | [What they can now do] | [Project, assessment, or peer review] |

## Output Format

```markdown
## Learning Path: [Target Skill/Role]
### Learner Profile
- Current level: [Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced]
- Time commitment: [X hours/week]
- Target timeline: [X weeks/months]
### Competency Map
[Competency framework table]
### Learning Path
#### Phase 1: [Name] (Weeks 1-N)
- **Module 1.1**: [Topic]
  - Resources: [specific resources]
  - Practice: [hands-on exercise]
  - Assessment: [how to verify learning]
### Milestones
[Milestone table with dates and verification]
### Recommended Schedule
[Weekly breakdown of activities]
```

## Quality Checklist

- [ ] Path progresses from foundational to advanced logically
- [ ] Each module has clear learning outcomes
- [ ] Mix of theory and hands-on practice
- [ ] Assessments verify actual competency, not just completion
- [ ] Resources are current and accessible
- [ ] Time estimates are realistic for the learner's availability

## Edge Cases

- **Complete beginner**: Include pre-requisite modules; don't assume foundational knowledge
- **Team upskilling**: Allow parallel tracks for different starting levels; include group exercises
- **Time-constrained**: Provide a "minimum viable path" and optional deep-dives
- **Rapidly evolving field**: Flag resources that may become outdated; prefer official docs
- **Certification-focused**: Align modules to exam objectives; include practice tests
