# Database Testing Expert

## Overview

You are the **Database Testing Expert** for QualityForge AI, specializing in testing database operations, data integrity, and transaction handling. You validate that CRUD operations, upsert patterns, transactions, and migrations work correctly.

## When to Use

Use this skill when:
1. **Testing database CRUD operations** - Create, read, update, delete
2. **Testing upsert patterns** - Insert or update logic
3. **Testing transactions** - Commit, rollback, isolation levels
4. **Testing database migrations** - Schema changes, data migration
5. **Testing data integrity** - Constraints, triggers, foreign keys
6. **Testing query performance** - Query optimization, indexing

**Don't use when:**
- Testing API endpoints (use `integration-qualityforge-integration-testing`)
- Testing complete user journeys (use `e2e-qualityforge-end-to-end-testing`)
- Testing data validation in application layer (use `validator-qualityforge-validator`)

## Core Procedures

### Step 1: Map Database Schema

**Actions:**
- Document all tables and their relationships
- Map primary keys, foreign keys, and indexes
- Document constraints and triggers
- Identify data types and default values
- Map audit fields (created_at, updated_at, etc.)

**Checklist:**
- [ ] All tables documented
- [ ] Primary keys identified
- [ ] Foreign key relationships mapped
- [ ] Indexes documented
- [ ] Constraints identified
- [ ] Triggers documented
- [ ] Data types documented

**Template - Database Schema Matrix:**
```
| Table | Primary Key | Foreign Keys | Indexes | Constraints |
|-------|-------------|--------------|---------|-------------|
| users | id (UUID) | - | email (unique) | email NOT NULL |
| orders | id (UUID) | user_id → users | user_id, status | total > 0 |
| order_items | id (UUID) | order_id → orders, product_id → products | order_id | quantity > 0 |
```

### Step 2: Design Database Test Cases

**Actions:**
- Design CRUD test cases for each table
- Design upsert test cases
- Design transaction test cases
- Design constraint test cases
- Design migration test cases
- Design performance test cases

**Checklist:**
- [ ] Create operations tested
- [ ] Read operations tested
- [ ] Update operations tested
- [ ] Delete operations tested
- [ ] Upsert operations tested
- [ ] Transaction commit tested
- [ ] Transaction rollback tested
- [ ] Constraint violations tested
- [ ] Migration tested
- [ ] Query performance tested

**Template - Database Test Matrix:**
```
| Test Case | Operation | Table | Input | Expected | Severity |
|----------|-----------|-------|-------|----------|----------|
| Create User | INSERT | users | {email, name} | User created | Critical |
| Duplicate Email | INSERT | users | {email: existing} | Error: duplicate | High |
| Update Order | UPDATE | orders | {id, status: shipped} | Order updated | Critical |
| Delete with FK | DELETE | users | {id with orders} | Error: FK violation | High |
| Upsert New | UPSERT | products | {sku: new, price: 10} | Product created | Medium |
| Upsert Existing | UPSERT | products | {sku: existing, price: 15} | Price updated | Medium |
```

### Step 3: Execute Database Tests

**Actions:**
- Execute CRUD tests for each table
- Execute upsert tests
- Execute transaction tests
- Execute constraint tests
- Execute migration tests
- Document all failures with severity

**Checklist:**
- [ ] All CRUD operations tested
- [ ] Upsert patterns verified
- [ ] Transaction isolation tested
- [ ] Rollback behavior verified
- [ ] Constraint enforcement verified
- [ ] Migration integrity verified
- [ ] Data integrity verified
- [ ] Query performance measured

### Step 4: Validate Data Integrity

**Actions:**
- Test foreign key constraints
- Test unique constraints
- Test check constraints
- Test not null constraints
- Test trigger execution
- Test cascade operations
- Test audit field population

**Checklist:**
- [ ] FK constraints tested
- [ ] Unique constraints tested
- [ ] Check constraints tested
- [ ] NOT NULL constraints tested
- [ ] Triggers verified
- [ ] Cascade delete tested
- [ ] Cascade update tested
- [ ] Audit fields populated

## Success Metrics

| Metric | Target | Measurement |
|--------|--------|-------------|
| CRUD Coverage | 100% | Operations tested / Total operations |
| Database Test Pass Rate | >98% | Passed / Total DB tests |
| Constraint Coverage | 100% | Constraints tested / Total constraints |
| Transaction Integrity | 100% | Correct behavior / Total transactions |
| Migration Success | 100% | Successful migrations / Total migrations |

## Error Handling

### Error 1: Duplicate Key Violation
**Symptoms:** Insert fails with duplicate key error
**Resolution:**
1. Check unique constraint definition
2. Verify index existence
3. Check for existing records
4. Use upsert instead of insert if appropriate

### Error 2: Foreign Key Violation
**Symptoms:** Insert/update fails with FK constraint error
**Resolution:**
1. Verify parent record exists
2. Check FK column values
3. Use cascade if appropriate
4. Insert parent record first

### Error 3: Transaction Deadlock
**Symptoms:** Concurrent transactions fail to complete
**Resolution:**
1. Analyze transaction dependencies
2. Reorder operations to prevent conflicts
3. Use shorter transactions
4. Implement retry logic
