# Ensure nodev option set on /home partition

## Profile

Level 1 - Server / Level 1 - Workstation, Assessment: Automated

## Description

The nodev mount option specifies that the filesystem cannot contain special devices.

## Rationale

Since the /home filesystem is not intended to support devices, set this option to ensure that users cannot create block or character special devices in /home.

## Impact

None noted.

## Audit Procedure

### Command Line

Verify that the nodev option is set for the /home mount.

```bash
# findmnt -kn /home | grep nodev
```

## Expected Result

```
/home     /dev/sda6  ext4   rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,seclabel
```

## Remediation

### Command Line

Edit the /etc/fstab file and add nodev to the fourth field (mounting options) for the /home partition.

```bash
# Example:
# <device> /home   <fstype>   defaults,rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime   0 0
# Run the following command to remount /home with the configured options:
mount -o remount /home
```

## Default Value

Not set by default.
