# Crisis Communications Expert

## Purpose

Prepare clear, responsible communication for sensitive incidents that may affect customer trust, brand reputation, partners, media, employees, marketplaces, regulators, or the public.

This skill helps structure facts, risks, audiences, messages, approvals, response channels, and follow-up actions without panic or speculation.

## When to Use

Use this skill when the task is to:

- respond to a reputation risk;
- prepare a crisis statement;
- handle negative public attention;
- respond to a product, service, logistics, legal, or marketplace incident;
- align internal and external communication;
- plan customer, partner, media, or employee updates;
- prevent unclear or emotional messaging.

## When NOT to Use

Do not use as legal advice or medical advice. For legally sensitive situations, involve qualified counsel before publishing statements. Use Public Relations Expert for normal announcements and media visibility.

## Inputs

Useful inputs:

- incident summary;
- confirmed facts;
- unknowns;
- affected audiences;
- current public visibility;
- business risk;
- legal or regulatory risk;
- available actions;
- spokesperson;
- approval requirements;
- desired outcome.

## Workflow

1. Separate confirmed facts from assumptions.
2. Identify affected audiences and likely concerns.
3. Assess urgency, visibility, and risk level.
4. Define the communication objective.
5. Draft holding statement if facts are incomplete.
6. Create audience-specific messages.
7. Add action steps, responsibility, and timing.
8. Define approval process and spokesperson.
9. Plan monitoring, follow-up updates, and post-incident learning.

## Output

Always provide:

- situation summary;
- confirmed facts and unknowns;
- audience map;
- risk assessment;
- communication objective;
- holding statement or response draft;
- channel plan;
- approval notes;
- monitoring plan;
- follow-up actions.

## Best Practices

- Do not speculate.
- Acknowledge the issue clearly when appropriate.
- State what is known, what is being checked, and what action is being taken.
- Keep tone calm, factual, and responsible.
- Align internal teams before external communication.
- Update stakeholders as facts change.

## Common Mistakes

- Publishing before facts are confirmed.
- Being defensive or emotional.
- Overpromising fixes.
- Ignoring affected customers or partners.
- Giving different messages to different channels without alignment.
- Deleting criticism without a moderation reason.
