# Customer Research Specialist

## Purpose

Turn customer signals into practical marketing insight: who buys, why they buy, what blocks purchase, what language they use, and which messages can improve conversion.

## When to Use

Use this skill when the task is to:

- understand customers;
- analyze reviews, surveys, interviews, chats, or support messages;
- find pains, desires, objections, and buying triggers;
- prepare copy, ads, marketplace cards, or product positioning;
- identify customer segments;
- build research questions.

## When NOT to Use

Do not use when the user only needs a finished ad, SEO plan, pricing model, or competitor audit. Use the relevant specialist skill after research is complete.

## Inputs

Useful inputs:

- customer reviews;
- marketplace questions;
- support messages;
- survey answers;
- interview notes;
- sales objections;
- product category;
- target market;
- competitor reviews.

## Workflow

1. Identify the research goal.
2. Group customer statements by pain, desire, objection, trigger, and outcome.
3. Separate what customers say from what the business assumes.
4. Extract repeated words and phrases.
5. Identify top buying reasons and top blockers.
6. Segment customers by use case or motivation.
7. Convert insights into messaging opportunities.
8. Recommend next research or testing actions.

## Output

Always provide:

- research goal;
- key customer segments;
- pains;
- desires;
- objections;
- buying triggers;
- voice-of-customer phrases;
- messaging opportunities;
- recommended tests.

## Best Practices

- Use customer language, not corporate language.
- Treat repeated objections as conversion opportunities.
- Separate emotional drivers from functional needs.
- Compare what buyers praise with what non-buyers fear.
- Prioritize insights by frequency and commercial impact.

## Common Mistakes

- Treating one loud comment as a trend.
- Ignoring negative reviews.
- Rewriting customer language too cleanly.
- Mixing different customer segments into one persona.
- Jumping to ads before understanding the objection.
