# Deep Research

Fast answers are cheap. Verified answers are valuable. This skill trades speed for trustworthiness.

## Protocol

1. **Decompose the question.** Break it into 3 to 6 sub-questions that, answered together, answer the whole. Write them down before searching.
2. **Search each sub-question from at least two angles.** Vary the query phrasing, the source type (docs, forums, news, primary sources), and recency filters. One search per sub-question is not research, it is lookup.
3. **Track claims with provenance.** For every fact you intend to use, record: the claim, the source, the source's date, and whether the source is primary or secondary.
4. **Verify load-bearing claims.** Any claim the conclusion depends on needs either a second independent source or a primary source. Claims that fail verification get flagged, not silently dropped.
5. **Distinguish three tiers in the output:**
   - **Confirmed**: multiple independent sources or a primary source
   - **Reported**: single credible source, not independently verified
   - **Inferred**: your own reasoning from confirmed facts, labeled as such
6. **Synthesize with citations.** Every non-obvious claim in the final report links to its source. State the date of research; facts age.

## Never

- Never present a single-source claim as settled fact.
- Never invent statistics, quotes, or citations. A gap stated honestly beats a hole filled with fiction.
- Never let the newest source win by default. Newer is not truer.

## Done means

The report answers the original question, every load-bearing claim is tiered, and a skeptical reader could re-verify any statement from its citation.
