# Spiral Positioning

Positioning framework for Spiral, Every's writing product. Populated July 2026 from the
Spiral 4.0 SuperDoc (positioning, verbal ID, GTM audience sections) — the ruled source.
This file carries the strategic position; voice execution lives in `brand-voice/spiral`.

## When to invoke

- When defining or refining Spiral's brand position
- When a strategy or craft skill needs Spiral positioning context
- When launching a Spiral product, feature, or campaign
- When writing anything where Spiral must be distinguished from generic AI writing tools

## The position

**Spiral is the Third Path for people who write for work.**

- Path 1 — Do it yourself. Craft and consideration. Brand standards maintained. Voice
  distinctly yours. Takes too long.
- Path 2 — Have AI do it. Tone flattened. AI tells abound. Content dissolves into a sea
  of sameness. Done fast.
- Path 3 — Spiral. Write with the cadence and care of Path 1 on the timeline of Path 2.

The hook underneath it: people don't need more AI that writes *for* them. They want AI
that can write *like* them. The harness, not the model, is what makes AI performance
shine — and Spiral's harness is built on Every's editorial standards.

**Core line: "Spiral writes like you, not for you."** (Recommended H1, with "Write with
AI without sounding like AI" as the sub. The SuperDoc lists four one-liner options and
flags the final H1 as an open call — confirm before any hero surface locks.)

## The category concept we own: Stylometry

The 200-year-old statistical analysis of writing — the discipline that attributed the
Federalist Papers and caught the Unabomber — now applied to preserving a writer's voice
at AI speed. Treat it the way Stripe treats "infrastructure": a word competitors have no
credible right to use. Long-form leans into the term; short-form translates it ("the
science of how *you* write"). ChatGPT and Claude don't have custom stylometrics built
in. Spiral does — that is the hero unique value prop and the moat claim.

## Enemy

AI slop and the false binary that produces it: the flattened, tell-ridden sameness of
Path 2, and the unsustainable grind of Path 1. Spiral is collaborative, never
replacement-oriented; voice-preserving, never voice-evolving. The user is never the
problem.

## Audience

- **Primary ICP — marketing teams and small-to-mid brands/startups** (~5–100 people;
B2B SaaS, DTC, agencies; brand-sensitive companies where voice is part of the
product). Budget persona: "The Marketing Lead Holding the Line" — owns brand voice and
the "does this sound like us?" call; buys when a trial holds their actual voice across
two channels with no AI tell. Evaluator persona: "The Daily Contributor." This is the
  land-and-expand path to $1M ARR.
- **Secondary — creators** (newsletter writers, podcasters, operators with audiences):
proof and word-of-mouth, individual seats, not the lead message.
- **Explicitly not the ICP:** professional/literary writers. Serve them when they show
  up; never market to them.

## Message hierarchy

- Marketing teams: *One brand voice. Every channel. No AI tells.*
- Small businesses: *Sound like a big brand. Move like a startup.*
- Creators: *Notes in. Newsletter out. Always in your voice.*
- Framework: Before-After-Bridge — the Third Path narrative is already a BAB; commit to it.

## Archetype

**The Editor** — less an assistant or junior writer, more a ruthless expert pushing you
to your prime. You don't show an editor scribbled notes; you don't show Spiral copy
without building a Style. Voice execution of this archetype: `brand-voice/spiral`.

## Proof (permission status matters)

Lenny Rachitsky, Emily Oster, Milly Tamati, Logan Brand quotes and Naveen Naidu's 500K
impressions are the ruled proof set — the SuperDoc marks site usage as NEEDING
PERMISSION. Nothing ships without clearance (`launches/claims-clearance`).

## Open rulings (as of July 2026 — check before generating)

- Final H1 among the four one-liner options
- Pricing nomenclature (working set Pro / Max / Teams) and Teams-unlimited price
- Usage-based pricing announcement timing (possibly post-launch)

## Dependencies

- `foundation/marketing-os`
- `marketing-science/archetyping`
- `marketing-science/research`
- `brand-voice/spiral` (voice execution of this position)
- `positioning/every-master` (parent-brand nesting)

## Quick checklist

- [ ] Third Path framing intact; never "AI writes for you"
- [ ] Stylometry claimed as ours; translated in short-form
- [ ] Collaborative, voice-preserving stance — user never the problem
- [ ] Message matched to ICP tier; literary writers not marketed to
- [ ] Proof quotes permission-checked before use
- [ ] Open rulings checked against current state before locking copy
