Now part of Akamai, Linode combines simple cloud computing with a massive edge network. 2025 focuses on **Distributed Compute** – running workloads closer to users.

## When to Use

- **Edge Compute**: If you need logic running in hundreds of locations worldwide.
- **Price Performance**: Often beats the "Big 3" on raw CPU/RAM per dollar.
- **Multi-Cloud**: Excellent alternative provider for redundancy.

### LKE (Linode Kubernetes Engine)

Managed Kubernetes with zero management fee for the control plane.

### Akamai Edge

Leverage Akamai's CDN and security capabilities (DDoS protection) natively with your compute.

## Best Practices (2025)

**Do**:

- **Use Edge Locations**: Deploy latency-sensitive apps to Linode's newer distributed sites.
- **Use Object Storage**: S3-compatible, affordable, and highly available.
- **Use Longview**: Lightweight monitoring for your Linux instances.

**Don't**:

- **Don't run unhardened**: Like any VPS provider, you get a raw Linux box. Configure `ufw`, `fail2ban`, and SSH keys immediately.
