# TikTok Ads Strategy

> **Currency & scope note (last reviewed 2026-07-19):** Platform mechanics referenced here (character limits, campaign-type names, feature availability, thresholds, benchmark figures, policy specifics) reflect general practice as of the review date above and are **not guaranteed current** — ad platforms change quickly. Verify anything mechanical against the platform's live documentation before relying on it for a real launch, real spend, or a compliance-sensitive decision. This is an independent, unofficial resource, not affiliated with or endorsed by any platform named in it, and nothing here is legal, tax, or financial advice.

## Purpose
Answer the planning-layer question before campaign structure exists: is TikTok the right channel — which depends more on creative production capacity and content-native fit than on any other paid platform — and how should budget and campaign type be allocated.

## Trigger Conditions
- "Should I run TikTok Ads for my business?"
- "What TikTok campaign objective is right for me?"
- "Plan my TikTok funnel"
- "How much budget do I need for TikTok Ads?"

## Required Inputs
- Business type, product/service, average order value
- Primary goal (sales, app installs, leads, awareness, community/traffic)
- Creative production capacity specifically for native short-form video — TikTok is the most creative-execution-dependent paid platform, more than Meta
- Existing TikTok presence (organic account, Shop) or starting from zero
- Budget range

## Core Capabilities

### Channel Fit Assessment
- TikTok rewards native, unpolished, entertainment-first creative more than any other paid platform — a business unwilling or unable to produce genuinely native content (not repurposed traditional ads) will underperform here regardless of budget
- Strong fit: visually/demonstrably interesting products, categories with active creator/community culture, businesses willing to work with creators or build in-house native content capability, TikTok Shop-eligible ecommerce
- Weak fit: highly formal B2B, categories requiring extensive claim substantiation that's hard to convey in a fast native format, businesses that will only supply repurposed traditional ad creative

### Objective & Campaign Type Selection
- Awareness/Reach/Traffic for top-funnel when the audience needs to discover the brand natively
- Community Interaction/Engagement for building an audience/following as a foundation
- App Promotion, Lead Generation, and Product Sales/Shopping (via TikTok Shop) for direct-response goals
- Spark Ads (boosting organic creator or brand content) as a distinct, often higher-performing path worth strategic consideration from day one — route to `tiktok-ads-spark-ads`

### Funnel Mapping
- TikTok performs strongest as a discovery/awareness engine feeding retargeting and TikTok Shop conversion, similar in spirit to Meta's Demand Gen role but even more creative-native
- Sequencing: native discovery content → retargeting engaged viewers → Shop/website conversion

### Financial Framing
- CAC/LTV sanity check, with explicit acknowledgment that creative testing volume (many cheap creative variants tested fast) is often as important as budget size for finding what works on this platform
- Flag when a business's creative production capacity, not budget, is the actual constraint on TikTok viability

## Workflow
1. Establish business goal and, critically, honest creative production capacity for native short-form video.
2. Assess channel fit against category/creative-culture suitability, not just goal fit.
3. Recommend objective/campaign type and sequencing (discovery → retargeting → Shop/conversion).
4. Sanity-check budget against realistic CPA and the need for creative testing volume.
5. Hand off to `tiktok-ads-account-management` (if no account) or `tiktok-ads-campaign-builder`.

## Outputs
- Channel fit verdict, explicitly addressing creative capacity
- Recommended objective/campaign type with justification
- Funnel sequencing plan
- Budget allocation, with creative testing volume flagged as a distinct requirement from raw media spend

## Rules
- Never recommend TikTok as primary channel for a business unwilling to produce or commission genuinely native creative — this is a harder constraint here than on any other platform in this library.
- Flag creative testing volume (multiple cheap variants) as often more important than raw budget size for TikTok specifically.
- Don't agree to unrealistic CPA targets without flagging the math.

- **Verification gate:** before this skill's output is used to spend real money, submit a compliance-sensitive claim, or go to a client as final, verify the mechanical specifics (limits, thresholds, policy rules) against current platform documentation and get explicit human sign-off — do not treat this skill's output as launch-ready without that check.
