## Phase 0 — Read project context

Current directory: !`pwd`

Detect tech stack by reading `package.json` in the current directory (use the Read tool).
From its `dependencies` and `devDependencies`, determine:
- **Framework**: contains `"next"` → Next.js | `"vite"` → Vite+React | `"react"` (without `"next"`) → React | `"vue"` → Vue | `"svelte"` → Svelte | none/absent → Unknown/fresh
- **CSS layer**: contains `"tailwindcss"` → Tailwind | `"styled-components"` → Styled-Components | `"css-modules"` → CSS Modules | none → Plain CSS
- **Language**: contains `"typescript"` → TypeScript | none → JavaScript

**Framework note:** If stack is Vue or Svelte, code-standards-core.md examples are React/TSX-oriented.
Adapt patterns to Vue SFC (`<template>/<script setup>/<style scoped>`) or Svelte (`.svelte`) syntax.
Core design rules (tokens, spacing, ARIA, responsive) apply unchanged regardless of framework.

If `package.json` does not exist, set stack to "Unknown — starting fresh".

## Phase 1 — Detect mode

**Mode A** — `$ARGUMENTS` is a text description with no URL/image:

**Mode D input parsing:**
1. If `$ARGUMENTS` contains a file path (`.html`, `.tsx`, `.vue`, `.svelte`, `.jsx`, `.css`):
   → Read that file as the upgrade target. Save back to the same path after upgrade.
2. If `$ARGUMENTS` contains a directory path (no file extension, or ends with `/`):

- No mention of page type (landing page / dashboard / component / form / etc.)
- No mention of industry, audience, or product purpose
- No color, style, or mood signal

**What "thin" looks like:** "做一个网站" / "build me a UI" / "a pricing page" / "SaaS dashboard" with no further context.

**What is NOT thin (proceed directly to Phase 3):** Any input that specifies at least 3 of:
purpose, audience, industry, mood/style, color preference, layout preference.

## Scene Reference Lookup (Mode A only)

**When:** After Minimal Input Check (or Guided Discovery) completes and before Phase 3.

**Purpose:** Even without a user-provided URL, if the scene matches a known category in
`knowledge/references/reference-sites.md`, use its curated reference sites to ground the
design in real-world best practices — not just internal archetypes.

**Steps:**

1. **Semantic scene matching.** Load `knowledge/references/reference-sites.md` and read all
   `## section headings` (e.g. "Academic / Research Homepages", "SaaS / Product Websites",
   "Museum / Cultural Authority Sites", etc.). Then compare the user's description (or the
   Design Brief if Guided Discovery ran) against these headings **semantically** — do not
   rely on exact keyword matching. Judge by meaning and intent:
   - "教授个人页" / "research lab website" / "faculty page" → Academic / Research Homepages
   - "帮我做个博物馆官网" / "art gallery site" → Museum / Cultural Authority Sites
   - "developer tool marketing" / "CLI product page" → SaaS / Product Websites
   - Use your understanding of the user's goal to find the **closest** section, even if
     the user's phrasing shares no keywords with the heading.
   - If no section is a reasonable semantic match (confidence < 60%), skip to Phase 3.

2. **If a scene matches:** Find the matching section in `reference-sites.md`, pick 1–2 of
   the most relevant reference URLs from that section's table based on proximity to the
   user's specific request.

3. **Run Phase 2 (Design DNA Extraction) on the selected reference(s).** Use `WebFetch` to
   inspect the reference site(s) and extract layout patterns, information architecture, and
   UI conventions — following the "What to extract" notes in the matching section. Do NOT
   copy branding literally; extract structural and compositional patterns only.

4. **Merge the extracted patterns into the Design Brief** as `Structural reference: [site name + URL]`.
   The reference informs layout structure and section ordering; archetype and palette still
   come from the user's style/color preferences (Phase 3).

5. **If no scene matches**, skip this step entirely and proceed to Phase 3 as before.

## Phase 2 — Design DNA Extraction

Extract a complete design system from the reference.

### 2a. For URLs — multi-source fetch

1. Use `WebFetch` to load the page. Extract from HTML/CSS:
   - All `--custom-property` color values (CSS variables)
   - All `color:`, `background-color:`, `border-color:` hex/rgb/hsl/oklch values
   - `@import` and `<link>` font declarations (Google Fonts URLs, @font-face src)
   - `letter-spacing`, `line-height`, `font-weight`, `font-size` values
   - `padding`, `margin`, `gap` patterns — identify the grid unit
   - `border-radius` values — identify the radius scale
   - `box-shadow` definitions
   - `transition` and `animation` declarations (duration, easing)
   - `max-width` on main content containers

   **SPA fallback:** If WebFetch returns < 5 color values (JS-rendered shell with minimal CSS),
   the site is a client-side SPA. Do NOT stop. Switch to research mode:
   - WebSearch: `"[brand]" design system`, `"[brand]" color palette`, `"[brand]" typography`
   - WebSearch: `site:figma.com "[brand]"` (public design system files)
   - WebSearch: `"[brand]" brand guidelines`
   - Infer from logo colors, marketing screenshots, press kit if findable
   - If accent color is visible in the HTML shell (e.g., a button color), treat it as ground truth
   Document confidence level in the DNA Report: `(inferred from research, not source CSS)`.

2. Use `WebSearch` to find public design documentation:
   - `"[domain]" design system`
   - `"[brand]" typography guidelines`
   - `"[brand]" color palette`
   - `site:figma.com "[brand]"` (for public Figma design system files)

3. If it's a screenshot/image, read it visually and identify:
   - Dominant and accent colors (sample from key UI elements)
   - Font style (geometric/humanist/serif/monospace, weight, size estimate)
   - Spacing density (compact/comfortable/spacious)
   - Component styles (button shape, card style, input style)
   - Overall personality

### 2b. Deep design analysis — think through each dimension

**COLORS — identify the full token system**

Look for all 6 layers:
1. **Page background** — pure white/black vs. off-white/off-black? warm or cool tinted?
2. **Surface/card background** — elevated or flat? how many levels of elevation?
3. **Text hierarchy** — primary / secondary / tertiary / disabled hex values
4. **Border colors** — transparent rgba or opaque hex? subtle or prominent?
5. **Brand accent** — the ONE signature color. Where does it appear? How sparingly?
6. **Semantic colors** — success/warning/error/info (often green/amber/red/blue)

Identify the color *temperature*: warm-tinted (slight yellow/orange in neutrals),
cool-tinted (slight blue/purple in neutrals), or perfectly neutral.

Reference palette signatures to recognize:
- Linear dark: `#08090a` bg, `#5e6ad2` accent (desaturated purple), `rgba(255,255,255,0.06)` borders → see **D1 Linear Void**
- Vercel dark: `#000000` (bold pure black), `#ededed` text, Geist typeface → closest: **D7 Obsidian Pearl**
- Stripe light: `#0a2540` text (deep navy), `#635bff` accent (warm purple), Söhne typeface → see **B1 Stripe Oxide**
- Raycast dark: `#141414` bg, `#ff6363` accent (coral-red), glass morphism surfaces → see **D3 Ember Obsidian**
- Resend: near-monochromatic black/white with ABC Favorit + Domaine serif pairing → see **D7 Obsidian Pearl**

**TYPOGRAPHY — identify the complete type system**

Classify the heading font:
- Geometric sans (circular forms: Geist, Circular, GT Walsheim, Plus Jakarta Sans)
- Humanist sans (variable stroke: Inter, Söhne, Graphik, DM Sans, ABC Favorit)
- Neo-grotesque (neutral Swiss: Helvetica Neue, Aktiv Grotesk, Suisse Int'l)
- Transitional serif (crisp: Tiempos, Domaine, Freight Display, Playfair Display)
- Old-style serif (warm: New York, Garamond, EB Garamond, Lora)
- Slab serif (sturdy: Roboto Slab, Bitter, Arvo)
- Display/custom (brand-specific: Framer Sans, Figma Sans, Arc Sans)

Identify:
- Heading letter-spacing: typical premium range is `-0.01em` to `-0.05em` (tight)
- Body line-height: document reading = 1.7–1.8, UI reading = 1.5–1.6, compact = 1.3–1.4
- Font weight usage: how many weights? which weights? (400/500/600/700 is the sweet spot)
- Type scale ratio: Minor Third (×1.2), Major Third (×1.25), Perfect Fourth (×1.333)?
- Monospace present? What font? (JetBrains Mono, Fira Code, Commit Mono, Geist Mono, SF Mono)

**SPACING — identify the grid system**

Base unit: 4px or 8px? (detect by finding GCF of observed spacing values)
Document the scale:
- Common 8px scale: 4/8/12/16/20/24/32/40/48/64/80/96/128px
- Component internal padding (tight: 8/12px, comfortable: 12/16px, spacious: 16/24px)
- Card/section outer padding
- Page max-width and section vertical rhythm (120px+ between sections = premium feel)

**SURFACES — identify the depth system**

- Shadow scale: xs (input focus) / sm (card) / md (dropdown) / lg (modal) / xl (floating panel)
- Border-radius scale: none/2px (sharp) / 4–6px (slight) / 8–12px (rounded) / 16px+ (large) / 9999px (pill)
- Does it use transparent borders (`rgba(255,255,255,0.08)`) or solid hex borders?
- Glass/blur effects? `backdrop-filter: blur(Xpx)` combined with semi-transparent bg?
- Noise/grain texture overlays?

**MOTION — identify the animation philosophy**

- Duration: snappy (<150ms micro), standard (200ms), emphasis (300ms), cinematic (500ms+)
- Easing: `ease-out` (natural deceleration), spring physics, `cubic-bezier(0.16, 1, 0.3, 1)` (expo-out)
- Hover state: color shift only? lift (translateY)? scale? underline slide?
- Page transitions vs. micro-interactions: which does it invest in?

**COMPONENT LANGUAGE**

- Button: shape (rectangle / rounded / pill), style (solid / outline / ghost), weight signal
- Input: border style (full outline / underline-only / floating label), corner radius
- Card: border vs. shadow vs. flat, inner content hierarchy

audience, and color — use those answers to PRE-SELECT the most likely archetype and present
it as the default recommendation, giving the user the option to override.

## Phase 4 — UI Generation

Produce production-quality frontend code. No shortcuts, no TODOs.

**Load design knowledge before generating:**
- Read `knowledge/design/design-principles.md` (core composition guidance)
- Read `knowledge/design/design-taste.md` (craft rules enforcement)
- Read `knowledge/implementation/code-standards-core.md` (CSS tokens, semantic HTML, output format, pre-ship checklist)

**Load icon system (MANDATORY — do not skip):**
1. Check if `icon-craft` skill is installed: run `ls ../icon-craft/SKILL.md 2>/dev/null`
2. **If icon-craft IS installed:**
   - Read `../icon-craft/knowledge/design/icon-principles.md` (7 Laws of Product Icon Design, anti-emoji rules, accessibility)
   - Read `../icon-craft/knowledge/design/icon-styles.md` (6 style archetypes with SVG parameters)
   - Read `../icon-craft/knowledge/references/icon-systems.md` (icon library URLs, Common Icon Mappings table, SVG generation templates)

   **Step B — Inventory all icons needed for the page:**
   Before writing any code, scan the planned layout and compile a **deduplicated icon inventory** — every icon usage across all sections (nav arrows, social icons, feature icons, CTA arrows, hamburger menu, search, close, external link, chevrons, status indicators, etc.). Example inventory:

      - Apply style archetype SVG parameters from Step A (stroke-width, linecap, linejoin)
      - Prefer simple elements (`<circle>`, `<rect>`, `<line>`, `<polyline>`) over complex `<path>`
      - Maximum 6 distinct elements per icon
      - All coordinates on integer or .5 pixel boundaries for crisp rendering
      - **Clarity over Cleverness** — icon must be understood without a tooltip
      - **Optical Consistency** — uniform stroke weight, consistent corners, same visual weight across all icons
      - **Semantic Precision** — one icon = one concept, no overloaded metaphors

   3. **(Optional) Fetch from icon library if you want pixel-perfect established icons:**
      - Lucide: `https://unpkg.com/lucide-static/icons/{icon-name}.svg`
      - Tabler: `https://unpkg.com/@tabler/icons/icons/outline/{icon-name}.svg`
      - If fetched, adapt to match style archetype: override `stroke-width`, `stroke-linecap`, `stroke-linejoin` from Step A, ensure `stroke="currentColor"`, strip unnecessary attributes

   **Step D — Embed icons consistently in the page:**
   - All icons inline as `<svg>` elements (no `<img>` tags, no icon fonts, no external sprite sheets)
   - Every icon uses `stroke="currentColor"` or `fill="currentColor"` — never hardcoded colors
   - Icon-only buttons always get `aria-label` + `title` tooltip
   - Decorative icons get `aria-hidden="true"`
   - One stroke weight, one cap/join style, one corner radius across ALL icons on the page

   Record in DNA Report: `Icons: [style archetype] [icon-craft: installed, N fetched / M generated / T total]`

3. **If icon-craft is NOT installed:**
   - First, prompt the user: `⚠️ icon-craft skill is not installed. It provides professional icon design principles, style archetypes, and curated icon mappings that significantly improve icon quality. Install it now?    - If the user declines or installation is not possible, fall back to baseline rules: generate inline SVGs with viewBox="0 0 24 24", stroke="currentColor" with no hardcoded colors, max 5-6 elements per icon, consistent stroke-width, pixel-align coordinates to integers or .5 values
   - Record in DNA Report: `Icons: [style description] [icon-craft: not installed, user declined]` or `Icons: [style archetype] [icon-craft: just installed, N fetched / M generated / T total]`

Apply all rules from those files throughout generation. Key principles to enforce:

**From design-principles.md — non-negotiables:**

*Composition & aesthetics:*
- Visual composition: use unequal column ratios (5:7 preferred over 50/50), balance visual weight asymmetrically, break one grid rule intentionally
- Whitespace: treat it as a design element — generous macro whitespace signals quality; the sections that feel "too empty" are often correct
- Typography as structure: use dramatic scale contrast (5:1 ratio between display and caption), let oversized type serve as the visual anchor
- Hero composition: choose from the 6 archetypes — type-dominant, product screenshot, split-screen, editorial, stat-driven, or ambient motion
- Visual rhythm: alternate dense and sparse sections (tension-release); differentiate sections through grid/scale/density changes, not background colors
- One unforgettable moment: every page needs one section that makes the user stop scrolling — design it first, let everything else support it

*Interaction & usability:*
- Gestalt + Fitts + Hick: layout must guide attention, targets must be large enough, choices must be limited
- Nielsen heuristics: every async action shows status, every error is recoverable, every action is undoable
- Affordance: interactive elements must look interactive — hover states, cursors, signifiers
- State completeness: all 8 states (default/hover/active/focus/disabled/loading/empty/error) for every component
- Progressive disclosure: primary actions surfaced, advanced options hidden behind expand/settings
- Cognitive load: max 7 items per group, one primary CTA per section, chunked forms
- Form validation: onBlur timing (not onSubmit), error messages = problem + specific fix, multi-step forms need Back + progress indicator
- Navigation: current-page indicator mandatory, mobile sidebar collapses to drawer, bottom nav uses safe-area-inset
- UX writing: action labels = verb + noun, error messages plain language, no Lorem ipsum anywhere, no generic placeholders
- Responsive: `dvh` not `vh`, `clamp()` fluid type, touch targets ≥ 44px, safe-area-inset on fixed bottom UI
- Accessibility: icon buttons need `aria-label`, dynamic content needs `aria-live`, no `outline: none` without replacement
- Motion: apply MOTION_INTENSITY dial — MOTION_INTENSITY ≥ 5 requires scroll-triggered reveals + staggered list entry; MOTION_INTENSITY ≥ 7 requires spring physics hover + page transitions; all animations use `transform`/`opacity` only (GPU-safe)
- Icons: never use Lucide or Feather as sole icon set — use Phosphor, Heroicons, or a custom SVG set for differentiation. **Never use emoji (🔥📊✨💡🚀) as icon substitutes** — they break visual consistency, lack dark mode support, and signal prototype-quality. All icons must use inline SVG with `stroke="currentColor"` or `fill="currentColor"` for automatic theme adaptation. Icon style must match the Design DNA: pick one stroke weight (1.5px or 2px), one cap/join style, and one corner radius — then apply uniformly across all icons in the project. Follow the icon system loaded in the **"Load icon system"** step above

## Phase 4.5 — Self-Evaluation Gate

**Always run this after generating code, before presenting to user.**

This phase separates *generation* from *evaluation* — the same agent that built the code
now acts as an independent critic. Do not moderate the critique; if the output is mediocre,
say so and revise before shipping.

Score the output on 4 weighted dimensions. Convert each subjective judgment into a
