# Job Description

## Overview

A good job description helps the right people self-select in and the wrong people self-select out. It balances inspiration with clarity.

## When to Use

- External job postings
- Internal role definitions
- Hiring manager briefs
- Role redesign or leveling exercises

## Recommended Structure

1. Role title and team
2. About the company / team (brief)
3. The mission of the role
4. What you’ll do (responsibilities)
5. What success looks like
6. Requirements (must-haves vs. nice-to-haves)
7. Benefits and logistics
8. How to apply

## Principles

- Focus on outcomes and impact, not just activity lists
- Separate must-have requirements from preferred ones
- Avoid unnecessary requirements that exclude capable candidates
- Use inclusive language
- Be honest about the role’s challenges and context
- Keep the posting scannable

## Verification

- [ ] A strong candidate can tell whether they are a fit
- [ ] Responsibilities and success criteria are concrete
- [ ] Requirements are justified and not inflated
