# Opportunity Assessment

## Overview

Not every idea deserves a roadmap slot. Opportunity assessment creates a lightweight, consistent way to compare options and kill weak ones early.

## When to Use

- Intake of new feature or product ideas
- Comparing multiple strategic bets
- Deciding whether to start discovery
- Portfolio-level prioritization inputs

## Assessment Dimensions

- **Problem strength** — How painful / frequent / underserved?
- **Market / reach** — Who is affected and how large is the opportunity?
- **Strategic fit** — Does it advance company and product strategy?
- **Differentiation** — Can we win in a meaningful way?
- **Feasibility** — Technical and operational realism
- **Viability** — Business model and cost to serve
- **Confidence** — How strong is the evidence?

## Principles

- Prefer comparable structure across opportunities
- Separate evidence from enthusiasm
- Make “no” and “not now” acceptable outcomes
- Keep assessments short enough to do often

## Verification

- [ ] Recommendation (pursue / discover / defer / kill) is explicit
- [ ] Key risks and unknowns are listed
- [ ] Assessment is understandable to stakeholders
