# Stress-Influence Tendency

This skill helps you understand how stress affects cognition, sometimes leading to dramatic changes in personality and judgment.

## Core Concept

Sudden stress causes a rush of adrenaline, prompting faster and more extreme reactions. Light stress can slightly improve performance, while heavy stress causes dysfunction. Extreme stress can cause complete cognitive reversals.

## Key Examples

- **Pavlov's dogs**: Under maximum stress during the Leningrad Flood, many dogs changed their behavior patterns completely
- **Cult conversions**: Extreme stress is used to create dramatic personality changes
- **Acute stress depression**: Causes extreme pessimism and activity-stopping fatigue
- **Performance under pressure**: Some people perform better, others freeze

## Consequences

- Poor decision-making under stress
- Personality changes that reverse when stress is removed
- Vulnerability to manipulation during stress
- Long-lasting effects from extreme stress experiences

## Antidotes

1. **Recognize stress states**: Know when you're under stress and may be impaired
2. **Delay important decisions**: Don't make major choices under acute stress
3. **Build stress resilience**: Practice staying calm under pressure
4. **Avoid manipulation**: Be wary of people who create stressful situations

## Application

When using this skill, help the user:
- Recognize when stress is affecting their judgment
- Make better decisions under pressure
- Understand how others might be affected by stress
- Create environments that reduce unnecessary stress
