# Oversubscribed — Daniel Priestley
**Author**: Daniel Priestley | **Pages**: ~100 (~46K words) | **Chapters**: 15 (Intro + 7 Principles + 5-Phase CDE Method + Team + closing) | **Generated**: 2026-06-29

## How to Use This Skill
- **Without arguments** — load the core frameworks below for reference.
- **With a topic** — ask about `signalling`, `the 7-hour rule`, `capacity`, `the four drivers`, `products-for-prospects`, `the CDE team`; I find and read the relevant chapter.
- **With a chapter** — ask for `ch10` (or "Phase 2"); I load that file.
- **Browse** — ask "what chapters do you have?" for the full index.

When you ask about a topic not in Core below, I read the relevant chapter file first.

## Core Frameworks & Mental Models

**Oversubscribed** = far more buyers than sellers; demand massively outstrips your capacity to supply. It's engineered, not luck. **You only profit when oversubscribed**, and being so *requires* that some willing buyers miss out. (Ch 1–2)

**Demand & Supply set the price** — you can *make your own market forces*. Three states: **Oversubscribed** → profit; **Balanced** → wages only; **Undersubscribed** → losses. *Story of the Two Bidders*: it only takes two people who want the one thing to drive the price up. Don't chase the whole market — find the few who value you most. (Ch 2)

**Separate yourself / Famous for a Few** — build *your* market, not "the" market. You only need ~5,000–10,000 true fans. The **5 C's of being famous**: Consistent message · Content · Commercial ecosystem · Continuity · Collaboration. (Ch 3)

**The Four Drivers of a market imbalance** — choose ONE main position (opposites can't be held together): **Innovation** (new thing only you sell) · **Relationships** (buyers ignore other sellers) · **Convenience** (frictionless to buy) · **Price** (profitable price others can't match). (Ch 4)

**Buying Environments Create Buyers** — "people buy because the conditions are right." *The herd moves when the herd moves* — cause a mad dash all at once, never sell one at a time. **People don't buy what others want to sell; they buy what others want to buy.** **People buy what they *want* (emotional), not what they *need* (logical)** — sell the want, bundle the need. Turn your clients into celebrities. (Ch 5)

**It's OK to be Different** — a clear **philosophy** polarizes and builds a tribe; with none you "compete on price." It's OK to fail, to say **no** (high standards), to make people **wait** (builds hunger), and to buck the trend. (Ch 6)

**Value is created in the ecosystem** — no single product; the whole system creates value. **Give away ideas, charge for implementation.** Value spectrum (low→high, less client energy = more value): Information → Components → Supervision → Done-with-you → Done-for-you. **Small stairs, not big walls** (low-risk first step). **Innovate at the edges; don't mess with a winning formula.** (Ch 7)

**Nothing beats being Positively Remarkable** — "worthy of being talked about" drives marketing cost toward zero. Move ≥50% of marketing budget into a **remarkable budget**. Build a **remarkably trusted personal brand** (Product / Company / Personality brand layers). (Ch 8)

### The Campaign Driven Enterprise (CDE) Method — 5 phases (Ch 9–13)
Become a series of well-timed campaigns, not "busy-ness." Run **3–10 campaigns/year**.
1. **Planning** — **Capacity = how many you can DELIGHT** (not units). Pick a market that *values you + can pay you + you want to serve* (all three). Build a **product-for-prospects** AND a **core offering**. Campaign theme = talk about something *bigger* than your products. (Ch 9)
2. **Build-up** — **Signal** intentions & terms; **ask for the signal, not the sale**; show **transparency** (one seller, many buyers). **The 7-Hour Rule** (~11 touches): provide ~7 hours of educate/entertain content (80/20) via **products-for-prospects**. (Ch 10)
3. **Oversubscribed Release** — release only when past a threshold: **5× strong / 10× educated / 100× soft** interest. Then **select** clients, **manage energy** (Staged Release · Special Editions · genuine <24h Price/Time limits), run scripted **sales conversations** (not chit-chat), and **hold price & capacity firm**. (Ch 11)
4. **Remarkable Delivery** — most important phase. **Remarkable Audit** (score every touchpoint 1–10; invest 5–15% of revenue). Aim for **Up energy** (unexpected delight), not Sideways; promise ~**70%**, surprise with the rest. You're also an IT business. (Ch 12)
5. **Celebrate & Innovate** — capture **stories, numbers, insights**; tell your stories; "the truth is in the results"; run the **5-question debrief**; then party and rest. (Ch 13)

**Team & the crazy times** — *convergent disruption* devalues "functional" work. Reach **Lifestyle** (oversubscribed on small capacity) before **Performance**. Build the four-role **CDE Team** from day one: **Key Person of Influence** (the 5 P's: Pitching, Publishing, Productizing, Profile, Partnerships) · Head of Sales & Marketing (leads/sales/referrals) · Head of Operations (owns **NPS**, <7/10 = no growth) · Head of Finance & Reporting (unlocks cash). (Ch 14)

## Scope & Limits
Covers the book's content only. Priestley's terminology and frameworks are preserved as written; business examples may be applied as a light lens but the teaching is faithful to the source. **Note:** the "Rule of 100," "Social Currency," and "Triggers" belong to Jonah Berger's *Contagious*, **not** this book — don't attribute them to Priestley. For implementation in your own context, combine with project-specific tools.
