# Domain Comprehension

Build a **verifiable, evidence-backed representation of the business domain** and an
**as-built/current-state PRD**. Executable source code is primary truth; runtime telemetry validates
behavior, not intent. **Prefer UNKNOWN over speculation.** Precedence:

## Output and determinism

Generated artifacts live under `docs/domain-comprehension/<domain-slug>/`; root `manifest.yaml` records
`engagement.artifact_root`. See [run-scoped-artifacts.md](reference/run-scoped-artifacts.md). Mandatory
phase artifacts: [phase-outputs.md](reference/phase-outputs.md). Completion gate:
[phase-completion-gate.md](reference/phase-completion-gate.md). Large workspaces:

Repository discovery is budgeted. Use the profile defaults or explicit CUSTOM limits in
[domain-model-contract.yaml](reference/domain-model-contract.yaml), record configured/consumed repository,
search-query and deep-read limits, and stop PARTIAL instead of silently exceeding them.

## Prerequisites

Workspace with source; `understand-anything` recommended for P0.5; Node ≥22 for its scripts. Session 0b
uses **squad-map**; Datadog/KubeSense runtime validation is optional. Setup: [SETUP.md](SETUP.md).

## As-built PRD and machine model

P5 synthesizes `PRD.md` from completed evidence. Requirements use stable `FR-*`, `BR-*`, `NFR-*` IDs plus
`Observed | Inferred | Unknown`, confidence and evidence. Never manufacture future-state intent, personas,
KPIs, SLOs, roadmap, or acceptance criteria. Contract: [as-built-prd.md](reference/as-built-prd.md).

FULL and affected DELTA/ADD_REPO runs emit `API_EVENT_SCHEMA.yaml`, `DATA_OWNERSHIP_GRAPH.yaml`,
`DEPENDENCY_GRAPH.yaml`, and `CAPABILITY_TRACEABILITY.yaml`. Dependency edges identify a focal perspective,
synchronous/asynchronous interaction, upstream/downstream direction and evidence-backed criticality.
Confidence uses the weakest material claim; never average upward. DELTA/ADD_REPO must run stale PRD detection
before retaining `PRD.md`. These artifacts are the current-state handoff to **prd-architect**, which may
propose future state but cannot rewrite observed evidence. Schema, budgets and compatibility:

## Workflow

Use [phase-index.md](reference/phase-index.md). Three lenses apply: mechanical graphs, manual source
verification, runtime corroboration. Do not run builds/tests/deploys or mutate application source/infra.
Allowed writes: configured artifact root, root `manifest.yaml`, `.understand-anything/**`, optional
`memory-bank/**`, optional `postman/**`.

`manifest.yaml` is the primary locator. Resume from its artifact root plus `PROGRESS.md`, `EXEC_SUMMARY.md`,
`PRD.md`, unknowns/omissions, `SQUAD_MAP.md`, and graph state. Skip `/understand` when branch+SHA is unchanged.
Compliance retrofit normalizes existing artifacts without re-analysis. Emit the required coverage report
after every phase via [phase-completion-gate.md](reference/phase-completion-gate.md).
