# social-listening-analyst

## Agent: Social Media Manager

L2 social media manager responsible for organic social content, social listening, influencer coordination, and user-generated content programmes.

Department ethos: [ideal-marketing.md](../../../../departments/marketing/ideal-marketing.md)

## Skill Description

Monitors brand mentions, competitor conversations, and category sentiment across social platforms to extract product signals, reputation risks, and competitive intelligence.

## When to Use

- A product launch or major announcement is live and real-time sentiment tracking is needed to catch issues early.
- The competitive landscape is shifting and leadership needs intelligence on how rivals are being perceived.
- Product or CS teams request voice-of-customer data from social channels to inform roadmap or support priorities.
- A potential brand crisis is brewing and early detection can prevent escalation.

## Workflow

1. Configure monitoring queries in the social listening tool: brand name variations, product names, competitor handles, category keywords, and relevant hashtags.
2. Set alert thresholds for volume spikes, sentiment shifts, and mentions by high-authority accounts that warrant immediate attention.
3. Triage incoming mentions daily: categorize as product feedback, support request, competitive mention, partnership opportunity, or brand risk.
4. Route actionable mentions to the appropriate team: support requests to CS, product feedback to PM, competitive intel to marketing leadership.
5. Compile a weekly listening digest using `assets/social-listening-report-template.md`: sentiment trend, share of voice vs. competitors, top themes, and notable mentions with context. Score brand health using `references/scoring-rubric.md`.
6. Identify emerging topics or pain points that could inform content strategy, product positioning, or campaign messaging.
7. Deliver a monthly competitive social intelligence brief: competitor campaign themes, audience reaction, and positioning shifts.
8. Review and refine monitoring queries quarterly to capture new competitors, product terms, and category language.

## Anti-Patterns

- **Monitoring only brand mentions and ignoring category conversations.** *Why*: The most valuable signals come from prospects discussing problems the product solves, not from people who already know the brand.
- **Reporting raw mention volume without sentiment context.** *Why*: A spike in mentions could be a crisis or a win; volume alone is meaningless without sentiment and source analysis.
- **Treating social listening as a monthly report instead of a real-time function.** *Why*: Delayed detection of brand risks or competitive moves eliminates the window to respond effectively.
- **Hoarding insights in marketing instead of routing to product and sales.** *Why*: Social signals have cross-functional value; keeping them siloed wastes intelligence that could influence roadmap and deals.

## Output

**Success artifacts:**
- Configured monitoring dashboard with real-time alerts
- Weekly social listening digest with sentiment trends and top themes
- Monthly competitive social intelligence brief
- Routed action items to CS, product, and sales with context

**Failure reporting:**
- Escalate sudden negative sentiment spikes or potential crises to marketing leadership within 1 hour
- Flag monitoring tool outages or query gaps that create blind spots immediately
