# IB Research

Support research for IB Extended Essays, Internal Assessments, and TOK. Use this skill for research and evidence evaluation, not for fabricating sources, evidence, quotations, or student findings.

## Start with the question

Identify the assignment type, research question or claim, subject constraints, date range, and needed output. If the question is broad or unanswerable, suggest a tighter, workable scope before extensive research.

## Research standard

- Use authoritative and appropriately primary sources where possible; distinguish evidence from commentary.
- For every important source, assess author or publisher expertise, purpose, evidence quality, date, relevance to the question, and material limitations or bias.
- Organize findings as claims, supporting evidence, caveats, and counterarguments. Separate confirmed facts, interpretations, and inferences.
- Provide accurate MLA-ready Works Cited entries and citation details that the student can verify. Do not guess missing publication details or page numbers; flag uncertainties.
- Preserve academic integrity: help the student form and support their own argument instead of presenting a research synthesis as a submission-ready final assessment.

## Response depth

Respect `quick` as a focused source check, short evidence brief, or answer to one research question. Respect `thorough` as a researched brief with source evaluations, competing perspectives, a proposed argument structure, and MLA-ready citations.
