## AVAILABLE SKILLS

| Skill | Purpose | Invoke with |
|-------|---------|-------------|
| `/rdd-research` | Ideation → research/spike loop → essay | Topic or question |
| `/rdd-model` | Extract domain vocabulary from essay | Essay |
| `/rdd-decide` | ADRs + argument audit + refutable behavior scenarios | Essay + domain model + prior ADRs |
| `/rdd-build` | BDD scenarios → TDD loop → working software | Scenarios + domain model |
| `/lit-review` | Systematic literature search and synthesis | Topic (used within `/rdd-research`) |

---

## WORKFLOW MODES

Present these options to the user and let them choose:

### Mode A: Full Pipeline

Run everything in order. For projects that need research before code.

```
Phase 1: UNDERSTAND
└── /rdd-research — Research loop → essay
    [Gate: User approves essay before proceeding.]
Bridge: MODEL
└── /rdd-model — Domain vocabulary extraction
    [Gate: User approves glossary.]
Phase 2: DECIDE
└── /rdd-decide — ADRs → argument audit → behavior scenarios
    [Gate: User approves ADRs, scenarios, and audit fixes.]
Phase 3: BUILD
└── /rdd-build — BDD → TDD → working software
    [Gate: User approves at each scenario completion.]
Phase 4: INTEGRATE
└── /rdd-build Step 5 — Integration verification
    [Gate: New components verified against real neighbors, not just stubs.]
```

### Mode B: Research Only

Phase 1 only. Use when the goal is understanding, not building.

```
└── /rdd-research — Research loop → essay
[Deliver essay. Done.]
```

### Mode C: Resume from Decisions

User already has research/essay. Start at the domain model bridge.

```
Bridge: MODEL
└── /rdd-model — Extract vocabulary from existing research
Phase 2: DECIDE
└── /rdd-decide — ADRs → argument audit → behavior scenarios
Phase 3: BUILD
└── /rdd-build — BDD → TDD → working software
```

### Mode D: Custom

User picks which skills to run and in what order.

## ORCHESTRATION RULES

### Stage Gates

Between every phase, you MUST:
1. Present the gate artifact to the user in a clear summary
2. Ask the user whether to proceed, revise, or go back to an earlier phase
3. Never auto-advance past a gate without explicit user confirmation

### State Tracking

Maintain a running status table:

```
## RDD Workflow Status
| Phase | Skill | Status | Artifact | Notes |
|-------|-------|--------|----------|-------|
| UNDERSTAND | /rdd-research | ▶ In Progress | Research loop #3 | Investigating caching strategies |
| MODEL | /rdd-model | ☐ Pending | — | — |
| DECIDE | /rdd-decide | ☐ Pending | — | — |
| BUILD | /rdd-build | ☐ Pending | — | — |
| INTEGRATE | /rdd-build Step 5 | ☐ Pending | — | — |
```

Update and display this table at each gate.

### Cross-Phase Integration

Findings from earlier phases inform later ones:
- `/rdd-research` essay provides context for `/rdd-model` vocabulary extraction
- `/rdd-model` vocabulary must be used consistently in `/rdd-decide` ADRs and scenarios
- `/rdd-decide` runs `/argument-audit` on ADRs + essay + prior ADRs to verify logical consistency before writing scenarios
- `/rdd-decide` conformance audit checks existing code against accepted ADRs — producing a debt list that informs scenario writing
- `/rdd-decide` ADR decisions constrain what `/rdd-build` implements
- `/rdd-decide` behavior scenarios drive `/rdd-build` test-first process
- `/rdd-build` treats ADR violations as architectural tidying — resolve as `refactor:` commits before implementing scenarios
- `/rdd-build` integration verification (Step 5) catches type mismatches, persistence divergence, and missing cross-component contracts that acceptance tests with stubs cannot detect
- If `/rdd-build` reveals a flaw in a decision, go back and update the ADR
- When any phase changes a domain model invariant, **backward propagation triggers**: all prior documents are swept for contradictions, supersession notes are added, and the amendment is logged in the domain model. This is a cross-cutting event that interrupts normal phase sequence.

### Artifacts Summary

| Phase | Artifact | Location |
|-------|----------|----------|
| UNDERSTAND | Research log | `./docs/research-log.md` |
| UNDERSTAND | Essay | `./docs/essay.md` |
| MODEL | Domain model/glossary | `./docs/domain-model.md` |
| DECIDE | ADRs | `./docs/decisions/adr-NNN-*.md` |
| DECIDE | Behavior scenarios | `./docs/scenarios.md` |
| BUILD | Tests + code | Project source |

### Invariant Amendments

Invariant changes are the highest-impact events in the RDD cycle. They can invalidate work from any prior phase.

- **When detected:** pause the current phase, run backward propagation (sweep all prior ADRs and essays for contradictions, add supersession notes, update the domain model's Amendment Log), then resume after propagation is complete.
- **Cost calculus:** the cost of propagation now is far less than the cost of stale assumptions propagating into code later. A 10-minute sweep prevents hours of debugging dead ideas in future sessions.
- **Who triggers it:** `/rdd-model` Step 3.5 detects amendments; `/rdd-decide` Step 3.7 executes backward propagation. But any phase that discovers an invariant contradiction should flag it for propagation.

## IMPORTANT PRINCIPLES

- **User controls the workflow**: Always present options and let the user decide. Never auto-advance past a gate without confirmation.
- **Research produces writing, not just notes**: The essay artifact distinguishes this from typical dev workflows. If you can't write it clearly, you don't understand it.
- **Domain vocabulary is the connective tissue**: The glossary from `/rdd-model` threads through every later artifact. Inconsistent naming signals incomplete understanding.
- **Stop at uncertainty**: If a decision or scenario depends on something unknown, go back to `/rdd-research` and investigate. Don't speculate past what's known.
- **Don't repeat work**: Pass relevant findings forward between skills. If `/rdd-research` already surfaced a tradeoff, `/rdd-decide` should reference it, not rediscover it.
- **ADRs are source of truth**: Code that contradicts accepted ADRs is structural debt. Resolve it before building on top of it.
- **Invariants decay with distance**: LLMs lose coherence across many documents. The invariants section is the short, authoritative statement that prevents this. Keep it concise. Read it first. Trust it over longer documents when they conflict.
- **Track state**: The user should always know where they are in the pipeline and what's left.
