# Developer Community Marketing

GTM playbook for developer-facing products. Every channel has rules — violate them and you get flagged, downvoted, or banned. Follow them and you get organic distribution that compounds.

## Channel Strategies

Each channel has detailed strategy in references/. Read the relevant file before generating content for that channel.

### Reddit — references/reddit.md
Authentic engagement rules, subreddit-specific angles, what gets upvoted vs flagged, comment-first approach, post formats, timing. Covers r/artificial, r/machinelearning, r/LocalLLaMA, r/SideProject, r/webdev, r/startups, r/entrepreneur.

### Hacker News — references/hackernews.md
Show HN format, title optimization, first comment strategy, posting times, what the YC/HN audience values, technical depth requirements, honest limitations approach.

### Twitter/X — references/twitter.md
AI builder community engagement, thread formats, demo video specs (30-60s screen recording), quote-tweet strategy, hashtag usage, engagement patterns.

### Discord — references/discord.md
AI agent communities, competitive coding communities, how to engage without spamming, community-specific value-add, relationship building.

### YouTube — references/youtube.md

### Dev.to / Hashnode — references/devto-hashnode.md
Technical blog post structure for SEO + credibility, cross-posting strategy, tag optimization, series approach.

### Product Hunt — references/producthunt.md
Developer product launch playbook: tagline, description, first comment, gallery, maker story, best launch day/time, hunter strategy.

## Developer Trust Signals — references/trust-signals.md
What makes developers trust a product before trying it. Open source components, architecture transparency, API docs quality, uptime pages, security posture.

## Cross-Promotion — references/cross-promotion.md
How to bridge non-tech audiences (TikTok @golfscenarios 13K+, @ogfinancebro) to builder/developer audiences. Content format translation, audience overlap identification.

## Workflow

1. Identify product type and primary developer audience segment
2. Read relevant channel reference files for the distribution plan
3. Generate channel-specific content following each channel's rules
4. Apply trust signals appropriate to the product
5. If cross-promotion applies, read references/cross-promotion.md
6. Produce complete distribution package: copy per channel, posting schedule, engagement plan

## Rules

- Never generate generic "check out my product" copy — every post must provide standalone value
- Match the voice and norms of each community — Reddit is not Twitter is not HN
- Always lead with what the reader gets, not what the product does
- Include honest limitations — developers smell bullshit instantly
- Timing matters — read each channel's timing guidance before scheduling
- One launch, multiple angles — same product, different story per channel
