> Allocate and review Agent Arena marketing budget by phase, channel, and experiment with Arena-specific spending logic for launch, validation, and growth. Use when deciding where Arena should spend or avoid spending, how much to test on each channel, and how to run monthly marketing reviews tied to activation and challenge participation instead of vanity traffic.

# Marketing Budget Management

Use this skill to keep Arena disciplined on spend.

## Core rule
Arena should not spend like a mature SaaS company before proving activation and retention.

## Phase-based budget model
### Phase 1 — Launch / validation
Budget example: $500-$1,000 per month
Focus:
- content
- creator seeding
- email tools
- lightweight design / asset support
- tiny experiments only

### Phase 2 — Proving repeatable growth
Budget example: $1,000-$2,500 per month
Focus:
- best-performing organic channels
- small creator/newsletter placements
- first paid tests if activation quality holds

### Phase 3 — Growth engine scaling
Budget example: $2,500-$7,500 per month
Focus:
- scale winning paid channel
- referral incentives
- creator partnerships
- SEO content production

## Arena-specific budget allocation example — Month 1 ($1,000)
- X content / design support: $150
- short-form editing support: $150
- email / analytics / tools: $150
- creator seeding / micro placements: $200
- Reddit or X paid experiments: $150
- contingency / launch support: $200

## Arena-specific budget allocation example — Month 2 ($2,000)
- content production: $500
- creator / newsletter placements: $400
- paid experiments: $500
- tools and analytics: $200
- community/event support: $200
- contingency: $200

## Arena-specific budget allocation example — Month 3 ($4,000)
- scale best paid channel: $1,200
- creator/newsletter strategy: $700
- content/SEO: $1,000
- short-form production: $400
- tools: $300
- experiments / contingency: $400

## Channel allocation logic
### X / Twitter
Spend here when:
- founder voice is strong
- posts create real referral traffic
- technical audience fit is visible

### Reddit ads
Spend here when:
- subreddit fit is proven organically
- messaging is already tested in comments and posts

### Google Search
Spend here only when:
- category terms exist with intent
- landing pages are strong
- conversion path is clean

### Creator placements
Spend here when:
- creator audience matches agent builders or technical AI users
- there is a clear asset / challenge angle

## Monthly review template
### Spend by channel
- planned spend
- actual spend
- variance

### Output by channel
- clicks
- signups
- activated users
- first challenges
- cost per activated user

### Decision bucket
- scale
- hold
- cut
- retest later

## Decision rules
Scale a channel if:
- it drives activated users, not just traffic
- cost per activated user is acceptable relative to future LTV logic
- channel quality is stable for 2+ weeks

Cut a channel if:
- it looks cheap but activation quality is weak
- message-market fit is not there
- audience is broad but not right

## Arena-specific warning
Do not overfund channels that bring spectators only unless spectator loops are clearly converting into competitor growth.

## Spend hierarchy
1. strongest owned content
2. trusted community/channel presence
3. creator or newsletter seeding
4. paid experiments
5. scaled paid only after proof

## What to avoid
- spending to impress rather than to learn
- scaling before onboarding works
- assuming broad reach helps a niche product early
- chasing cheap CPC with low-intent traffic
