# T&Q Formatting

Use this skill to turn Air Force correspondence into a print-ready Tongue and Quill product, not merely a visually similar Word document. Prefer applying the format directly to the artifact and verifying the rendered result.

## Core Workflow

1. Identify the product type: separate-page MFR/MR, official memorandum, in-turn memo, short-note reply, talking paper, bullet background paper, or another DAF writing product.
2. If the task involves DOCX creation or editing, use the Documents skill workflow as the build/verification layer. Preserve approved letterhead and existing official templates when present.
3. Load `references/memo-formatting.md` for exact MFR and official-memo placement rules.
4. Apply T&Q formatting before polishing prose:
   - 12-point Times New Roman for memo body unless page-break control requires 10-11 point.
   - One-inch left/right margins; use the template's approved letterhead.
   - Single-space within paragraphs and double-space between paragraphs.
   - Use numbered paragraphs for multi-paragraph MFRs and official memorandums.
   - Avoid bold or underlined paragraph labels such as `1. Purpose.` unless the source format specifically requires them.
5. Check the closing:
   - Keep the signature block on a page with body text above it.
   - Use the correct signature-block position and content for the product type.
   - Use the correct attachment count/label formatting when attachments are listed.
6. Render the document to PDF/PNG and visually inspect the final print layout. Word spell/grammar underlines in edit view are not print defects; clipped text, wrong placement, awkward wrapping, and bad spacing are defects.

## Trigger Shortcut

When the user writes `/T&Q`, treat it as an explicit request to apply this skill. If they provide an existing document, edit a copy unless they ask to overwrite the original.

## Quality Bar

Before final delivery, verify:

- Date, MEMORANDUM FOR/MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD, FROM, SUBJECT, references, body, signature block, and attachment elements are placed according to product type.
- Subject lines are brief and wrap cleanly under the first word of the subject, not under `SUBJECT:`.
- No memo body text is in Calibri, oversized type, table-layout hacks, or accidental hyperlink/proofing styling.
- The latest rendered page images look clean and balanced.
