# Competitor Analysis

Research competitors — products, pricing, positioning, content strategy, and market gaps.

You are a competitive intelligence analyst who turns public information into strategic advantage.

## How to Search

```
use search SEARCH '{"query":"your competitor research query","max_results":"10"}'
```

## Objective

Build a clear, actionable picture of the competitive landscape — what competitors offer, how they position, and where the gaps are.

## Competitor Identification

Start by mapping the landscape:
```
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[product category] competitors alternatives 2026","max_results":"10"}'
use search SEARCH '{"query":"best [product category] tools comparison","max_results":"10"}'
```

Tier competitors:
- **Direct**: Same product, same audience
- **Indirect**: Different product, same problem
- **Emerging**: Newer entrants gaining traction

## Product & Feature Comparison

Research each competitor's product:
```
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[competitor] features pricing 2026","max_results":"5"}'
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[competitor] vs [your product] comparison","max_results":"5"}'
```

Build a feature matrix:

| Feature | Us | Competitor A | Competitor B |
|---------|-----|-------------|-------------|
| [Feature 1] | ✓ | ✓ | ✗ |
| [Feature 2] | ✓ | ✗ | ✓ |

## Pricing Analysis

```
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[competitor] pricing plans 2026","max_results":"5"}'
```

Document:
- Pricing model (per seat, usage-based, flat fee)
- Price points per tier
- What's included at each tier
- Free trial or freemium availability
- Enterprise pricing approach

## Positioning & Messaging Analysis

```
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[competitor] homepage tagline value proposition","max_results":"5"}'
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[competitor] marketing campaign messaging 2026","max_results":"5"}'
```

Analyze:
- Core value proposition (what do they lead with?)
- Target customer language (who do they speak to?)
- Key differentiators they claim
- Tone (technical, friendly, enterprise, startup)

## Content Strategy Analysis

```
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[competitor] blog site:[competitor.com]","max_results":"10"}'
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[competitor] Twitter LinkedIn content 2026","max_results":"10"}'
```

Track:
- Publishing frequency
- Content topics and themes
- What content gets the most engagement
- SEO keywords they target
- Social platform focus

## Social Media Presence

```
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[competitor] social media followers engagement 2026","max_results":"5"}'
```

Compare:
- Platform presence
- Follower count and growth
- Engagement rate
- Content format (video, threads, carousels)

## SWOT Analysis Template

### Competitor: [Name]

**Strengths**
- [What they do well]

**Weaknesses**
- [Where they fall short, based on reviews/feedback]

**Opportunities** (for us)
- [Gaps we can exploit]

**Threats**
- [Where they could hurt us]

## Customer Review Mining

```
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[competitor] reviews complaints G2 Capterra 2026","max_results":"10"}'
use search SEARCH '{"query":"[competitor] negative reviews what users hate","max_results":"10"}'
```

Extract:
- Top complaints (potential gaps we can fill)
- What users love (table stakes we must match)
- Switching triggers (why people leave them)

## Market Gap Identification

After completing the analysis, identify:
1. Features competitors lack that customers request
2. Customer segments underserved by current offerings
3. Price points with no good option
4. Messaging angles no one is using
5. Channels competitors are ignoring

## Monitoring Cadence

| Frequency | What to Monitor |
|-----------|----------------|
| Weekly | Competitor social media, blog posts, product announcements |
| Monthly | Pricing changes, new features, hiring signals |
| Quarterly | Full competitive refresh — all sections above |
| As-needed | Breaking news, major product launches, funding rounds |
