# Marketing Council

The Marketing Council is a structured multi-perspective decision framework that stress-tests strategic marketing, positioning, and packaging decisions through the mental models of legendary marketing thinkers. Simulating diverse marketing viewpoints (direct response, brand equity, category creation, behavioral psychology, viral mechanics) exposes blind spots, resolves strategic deadlocks, and synthesizes clear executive decisions.

## 1. The Council of Advisors & Core Mental Models

Consult distinct strategic frameworks to evaluate decisions:
- **David Ogilvy (Empirical Direct Response & Research)**:
  - *Core Question*: "Where is the factual evidence? Does the headline promise a quantifiable consumer benefit?"
  - *Lens*: Ruthless clarity, research-backed copy, long copy that sells, respect for consumer intelligence.
- **April Dunford (Context & Category Positioning)**:
  - *Core Question*: "What is the customer's real alternative, and what unique capabilities do we provide that enable value they care about?"
  - *Lens*: Ditching category confusion; anchoring positioning against competitive alternatives; establishing deliberate customer segments.
- **Alex Hormozi (Offer Architecture & Risk Reversal)**:
  - *Core Question*: "How can we make this offer so good that prospects would feel stupid saying no?"
  - *Lens*: Value equation (Dream Outcome x Perceived Likelihood / Time Delay x Effort & Sacrifice); bonus stacking; absolute risk reversals.
- **Rory Sutherland (Behavioral Economics & Psychological Alchemy)**:
  - *Core Question*: "Are we solving an engineering problem when the real bottleneck is psychological perception?"
  - *Lens*: Reframing problems; exploiting cognitive biases; finding low-cost behavioral tweaks that yield massive perceived value shifts.
- **Seth Godin (Permission Marketing & The Remarkable)**:
  - *Core Question*: "Is this truly remarkable — would people miss it if it were gone?"
  - *Lens*: Organic word-of-mouth; designing for the smallest viable audience; building empathy-first distribution.

## 2. The Structured Council Review Protocol

Execute the review across four disciplined phases:
1. **The Strategic Proposition**: Document the decision, pricing shift, or campaign in a concise 1-page briefing note.
2. **Independent Advisor Teardowns**:
   - Each advisor critiques the proposal strictly through their documented framework.
   - Surface where advisors fundamentally disagree (e.g. Ogilvy demanding immediate measurable direct response vs Godin warning against burning long-term trust).
3. **The Dialectic Debate**:
   - Pit competing viewpoints against each other to identify core trade-offs (e.g. short-term conversion lift vs long-term brand equity).
4. **Synthesis & Executive Verdict**:
   - Deliver a definitive, actionable recommendation incorporating the strongest critiques while rejecting theoretical distractions.

## 3. Review Deliverable Format

```markdown
# Marketing Council Review: [Strategic Decision]
## The Strategic Problem
[One-paragraph summary of the proposed pricing, positioning, or campaign shift]
## Perspectives from the Council
- **April Dunford (Positioning)**: "You're competing in a crowded CRM space when your real differentiator is automated ledger reconciliation. Re-position into Financial Ops."
- **Alex Hormozi (Offer)**: "Your pricing is fine, but the guarantee is weak. Offer a 60-day migration guarantee where you pay their switching fee if they don't see 20% efficiency gains."
- **Rory Sutherland (Psychology)**: "Don't sell this as software; sell it as insurance against regulatory audit fines."
## The Core Strategic Tension
[The fundamental tradeoff surfaced during review — e.g. broad market appeal vs niche dominance]
## Executive Verdict & Action Plan
1. **Immediate Execution**: [Top 3 non-negotiable changes to make before shipping]
2. **Kill Item**: [What to eliminate entirely based on council feedback]
```

## Critical Rules
1. Never use the council to rubber-stamp an existing decision; force advisors to find genuine weaknesses.
2. Advisors must speak from their documented methodologies and published literature, not generic platitudes.
3. Every council review must conclude with a single decisive executive verdict and actionable roadmap.

## Verification Checklist
- [ ] Strategic decision briefed with clear context, target audience, and current baseline.
- [ ] Council advisors represent distinct, competing schools of marketing thought.
- [ ] Specific disagreements between advisors surfaced and analyzed.
- [ ] Executive verdict synthesizes actionable changes rather than leaving open questions.
- [ ] Recommendations prioritize immediate testability and measurable outcomes.

## Anti-Patterns
- NEVER generate superficial advisor quotes that sound like generic AI cheerleading.
- NEVER allow the council to recommend endless committee deliberation; force a concrete decision.
- NEVER ignore operational and engineering constraints when evaluating creative proposals.
