# Viral Content Formula

## When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when you need to:
- Analyze why certain content goes viral and apply those patterns
- Create frameworks for engineering highly shareable content
- Design content specifically optimized for shares, saves, and reposts
- Build a repeatable system for producing high-reach content

**DO NOT** use this skill for evergreen SEO content or transactional content. This is for content designed to spread through social sharing.

---

## Core Principle

VIRAL CONTENT IS NOT RANDOM — IT FOLLOWS PATTERNS. CONTENT GOES VIRAL WHEN IT TRIGGERS AN EMOTIONAL RESPONSE STRONG ENOUGH THAT PEOPLE FEEL COMPELLED TO SHARE IT.

---

## Phase 1: Brief

### Required Inputs

| Input | What to Ask | Default |
|-------|------------|---------|
| **Platform** | "Where should this content go viral? Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok?" | Primary social platform |
| **Topic / niche** | "What topic area are you creating in?" | No default — must be provided |
| **Content format** | "Text post, video, carousel, thread, or any format?" | Any format |
| **Audience** | "Who should share this?" | No default — must be provided |
| **Brand constraints** | "Are there topics or tones that are off-limits?" | No offensive or divisive content |
| **Viral examples** | "Share 2-3 pieces of viral content in your niche you admire." | None — will analyze patterns |

**GATE: Confirm brief before analysis.**

---

## Phase 2: Analyze Viral Patterns

### The 6 Viral Triggers

Analyze which triggers apply to the user's niche:

```
## Viral Triggers
| Trigger | Why People Share | Example |
|---------|-----------------|---------|
| **Utility** | "This is so useful, others need to see it" | Cheat sheets, templates, how-tos |
| **Identity** | "This says something about who I am" | Values-based content, "I'm the type who..." |
| **Emotion** | "This made me feel something strong" | Inspirational stories, outrage, humor |
| **Novelty** | "I've never seen/heard this before" | Surprising data, contrarian takes |
| **Social currency** | "Sharing this makes me look smart/informed" | Curated insights, first-to-know content |
| **Controversy** | "I have a strong opinion on this" | Hot takes, debates, unpopular opinions |
```

### Niche-Specific Analysis

```
## What Goes Viral in [User's Niche]
**Top-performing content types:** [List 3-5 formats that get high shares]
**Common viral triggers:** [Which triggers work best for this audience]
**Peak engagement patterns:** [What time, format, and style gets the most reach]
**Shareability factors:** [What makes this audience hit the share button]
```

**GATE: Present analysis and confirm direction before creating frameworks.**

---

## Phase 3: Write

### Viral Content Frameworks

Deliver 5 reusable frameworks the user can apply repeatedly:

```
## Framework 1: The Utility Monster
**Trigger:** Utility (save/share for later)
**Structure:** Create a resource so useful people bookmark and share it
**Template:** "[Number] [things/tools/resources] for [specific audience]"
**Example:** "20 free tools every solopreneur should bookmark (thread)"
**Why it works:** People share resources that make them look helpful to their network
## Framework 2: The Contrarian Take
**Trigger:** Novelty + Controversy
**Structure:** Challenge a commonly held belief with evidence
**Template:** "Unpopular opinion: [common practice] is actually [negative outcome]. Here's why + what to do instead."
**Example:** "Unpopular opinion: posting every day on social media is destroying your brand."
**Why it works:** Disagreement triggers engagement. People share to agree or argue.
## Framework 3: The Transformation Story
**Trigger:** Emotion + Identity
**Structure:** Before/after narrative with a clear turning point
**Template:** "I went from [bad state] to [good state] by [changing one thing]. Here's the full story."
**Example:** "I went from $3K to $30K months by changing one thing about my proposals."
**Why it works:** Transformation stories are aspirational — people share them because they want the same result.
## Framework 4: The Myth Buster
**Trigger:** Novelty + Social Currency
**Structure:** Debunk a widespread misconception with data or experience
**Template:** "[Common belief] is a myth. Here are [N] reasons why (with proof)."
**Example:** "The '10,000 hour rule' is a myth. Here's what the research actually says."
**Why it works:** People love sharing content that makes them look informed.
## Framework 5: The Relatable Observation
**Trigger:** Identity + Emotion
**Structure:** Name an experience everyone has but nobody talks about
**Template:** "Nobody talks about [universal experience in your niche]. [Describe it vividly]."
**Example:** "Nobody talks about the moment you finish a client project and have zero pipeline. That 3 AM panic."
**Why it works:** When people feel seen, they share to signal "this is me."
```

### Content Amplification Tactics

```
## Boosting Shareability
1. **Make it saveable** — cheat sheets, lists, and templates get saved (Instagram) or bookmarked (Twitter)
2. **Make it screenshot-worthy** — format key insights so they look good as a screenshot
3. **Ask for the share** — "Tag someone who needs this" or "Repost if you agree"
4. **Time it right** — post when your audience is most active (platform analytics)
5. **Engage in first 30 minutes** — respond to every early comment to boost algorithmic distribution
6. **Cross-pollinate** — share the content on a secondary platform with a native format twist
```

---

## Phase 4: Polish

### 1. Viral Content Checklist

```
## Shareability Checklist
- [ ] Content triggers at least 2 of the 6 viral triggers
- [ ] Hook stops the scroll in the first 1-3 seconds (or first line)
- [ ] Content delivers value that earns the share
- [ ] Format is native to the platform (not a cross-post)
- [ ] Content is easy to consume (scannable, visual, or under 60 seconds)
- [ ] CTA encourages sharing, saving, or commenting
- [ ] Content is authentic — not manufactured controversy for attention
- [ ] Posting time aligns with audience peak activity
```

### 2. Content Ideas Generated

Produce 10 specific content ideas using the frameworks, tailored to the user's niche.

### 3. Measurement Plan

```
## Track Viral Performance
| Metric | What It Measures |
|--------|-----------------|
| Shares / Reposts | How many people actively distributed it |
| Saves / Bookmarks | How valuable people found it |
| Impressions | Total reach |
| Engagement rate | % of viewers who interacted |
| New followers from post | Audience growth driven by the content |
```

---

## Example: Viral Content Plan for a Freelance Pricing Expert

```
Framework 1 (Utility): "The complete freelance rate calculator — bookmark this thread"
Framework 2 (Contrarian): "Stop charging by the hour. Here's the math on why it's costing you $50K/year."
Framework 3 (Transformation): "I went from $50/hr to $5K/project. The pivot that changed everything."
Framework 4 (Myth Buster): "3 pricing 'rules' that are completely wrong (and what the data shows)"
Framework 5 (Relatable): "The panic when a client asks 'what's your rate' and you have no idea what to say"
```

---

## Anti-Patterns

- **Manufacturing outrage** — going viral through negativity damages your brand long-term.
- **Clickbait without substance** — a viral hook with no payoff gets engagement but kills trust.
- **Copying viral content verbatim** — adapt the pattern, not the specific post. Plagiarism gets called out.
- **Optimizing only for views** — 1M views from the wrong audience is worthless. Viral content should attract your ideal customer.
- **Chasing virality at the expense of consistency** — one viral post does not build a business. Consistent quality content does.
- **Ignoring platform norms** — what goes viral on TikTok will not go viral on LinkedIn in the same format.

---

## Recovery

- **Content never goes viral:** Stop chasing virality. Focus on consistently useful content. Viral moments come from a foundation of quality.
- **Went viral but got no followers:** The content attracted the wrong audience. Narrow the topic to attract your ideal customer.
- **Viral for the wrong reasons:** Respond calmly, do not delete (unless it violates your values), and move forward with on-brand content.
- **Cannot create video:** Focus on text-based viral formats — threads, carousels, and text posts can go viral without video.
- **Running out of ideas:** Revisit the 5 frameworks monthly. Each framework can generate dozens of variations.
