# Synthesize Opposing Views

Follow these steps:

### 1. Identify the opposing positions

Target: the thesis and antithesis in the current context.

### 2. State the thesis clearly

Its core arguments, what it explains well, its strengths and appeal.

### 3. Develop the antithesis

Present it as a genuine alternative, not mere negation: its own arguments, what it explains well, what it reveals that the thesis missed.

### 4. Examine the conflict

Where exactly do they contradict? What does each get right or miss? Are they answering different questions or operating on different assumptions?

### 5. Identify the deeper truth

What higher-level understanding resolves the contradiction? Is it a false dichotomy? Are both partially right in different contexts? What does the conflict itself reveal?

### 6. Construct the synthesis

Build a new position that incorporates insights from both, transcends the either/or framing, and explains what neither alone could.

### 7. Test the synthesis

Does it account for what each side got right and resolve the original conflict? What new tensions or questions does it create?
