# Cross-tool research

Clarify the target when the request does not identify a person, project, incident, channel, ticket, or time range.

Search the most likely authoritative sources first, then follow identifiers and links across connectors. Keep evidence separate from inference. Report:

- The direct answer or current state
- A short timeline when sequence matters
- The source of each important fact
- Conflicts, missing evidence, and unresolved questions
- The next useful query or action

For investigations, start with the observed symptom, establish scope and timing, correlate recent changes, and avoid claiming a root cause until the evidence supports it.
