# Client Intake

Take a raw client inquiry and open a clean matter: the facts, the ask, and any
conflicts, ready for the operator to accept.

## When to use

- A prospective client reaches out about a new matter.
- An existing client brings a new issue that needs its own file.

## Steps

1. **Capture** the client, the parties, and the issue in their own words.
2. **Clarify** the desired outcome, deadline, and jurisdiction.
3. **Check** for conflicts against current and former clients.
4. **Scope** the likely work and flag anything outside the firm's practice.
5. **Summarize** into a matter record following the [[Matter checklist]].

## Output

A structured matter record — parties, issue, outcome, jurisdiction, conflict
check — with a recommended scope. The operator decides whether to accept.
