# ASMO — Atomistic Simulation Methods Ontology

## Overview

ASMO describes **how** atomistic simulations are performed: the computational methods, algorithms, potentials, input parameters, and calculated properties. It complements CMSO (which describes **what** is being simulated — the material sample) by capturing the simulation methodology.

- **IRI**: `http://purls.helmholtz-metadaten.de/asmo/`
- **Version**: 1.0.0
- **License**: CC BY 4.0
- **105 classes** | **25 object properties** | **16 data properties**

> **Note on named individuals:** The ASMO documentation describes specific implementations (e.g., Nose-Hoover thermostat, Parrinello-Rahman barostat, NVT/NPT/NVE ensembles) as conceptual instances. However, the current OWL file does **not** declare these as `owl:Class` or `owl:NamedIndividual`. They are listed in the Usage Patterns section below for reference, but programmatic queries should use the parent classes (Thermostat, Barostat, Statistical Ensemble).

## Relationship to CMSO

ASMO imports from CMSO:
- `Computational Sample` — the material being simulated
- `Simulation Cell` — the periodic box
- `Plane`, `Vector` — geometric primitives

**Typical usage pattern**: CMSO describes the sample (crystal structure, composition, defects), ASMO describes what you do with it (DFT calculation, MD simulation with EAM potential).
