# CSV Column Consistency Fix

**Version Implemented:** 0.229.001

## Issue Description
When tabular data files (like credit card statements, financial reports) had inconsistent column counts in their CSV format, the frontend DataTables component would fail with a "DataTables warning: table id=DataTables_Table_5 - Incorrect column count" error.

## Root Cause
Complex tabular data often has:
- **Header rows** with full column definitions (e.g., 13 columns)
- **Data rows** with varying amounts of data (some only 2-3 columns)
- **Summary rows** with minimal data

This created inconsistent row structures that DataTables couldn't handle gracefully.

## Example Problem Data

In this example:
- Header: 13 columns
- Summary rows: Only 1-2 columns with data
- Data rows: Full 13 columns

## Solution Implemented

### Frontend Enhancement (`chat-input-actions.js`)
Enhanced the CSV parsing logic to normalize column counts:

// Ensure all rows have the same number of columns as headers

  cells.push(''); // Add empty cells for missing columns
}
// Truncate if there are too many columns (safety check)
if (cells.length > headerCount) {
  cells.splice(headerCount);

```

### Key Improvements
1. **Column Count Normalization**: All rows are padded to match header column count
2. **Empty Cell Padding**: Missing columns are filled with empty strings
3. **Overflow Protection**: Extra columns are truncated if present
4. **DataTables Compatibility**: Ensures consistent table structure for rendering

## Testing
Added comprehensive test coverage in `test_tabular_data_csv_storage_fix.py`:
- Tests inconsistent column count scenarios
- Validates column normalization logic
- Ensures empty cell padding works correctly

## Impact
- ✅ **Fixed DataTables Errors**: No more "Incorrect column count" warnings
- ✅ **Better Data Display**: Complex financial/activity data renders correctly
- ✅ **Maintained Performance**: Minimal processing overhead
- ✅ **Backward Compatibility**: Works with existing data formats
