# Commands → Skills Migration Summary

**Date:** 2026-01-28  
**Status:** ✅ Complete (Actually Done This Time!)

## What Changed

**Fully migrated 26 commands** from `.claude/commands/` to `.claude/skills/` with proper directory structure and YAML frontmatter following [Anthropic's Skills guidance](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/skills) and the [Agent Skills standard](https://agentskills.io).

**Previous attempt:** Only documentation was created, skills weren't actually migrated.  
**This migration:** All skills created with proper format.

## Migration Results

### Skills Created (26 total)

**Daily Workflow (6):**
- `daily-plan` - Generate context-aware daily plan
- `daily-review` - End of day review
- `journal` - Morning/evening/weekly journaling
- `meeting-prep` - Prepare for meetings
- `process-meetings` - Process Granola meetings
- `triage` - Organize inbox

**Weekly/Quarterly Planning (4):**
- `week-plan` - Plan the week
- `week-review` - Review the week
- `quarter-plan` - Set quarterly goals
- `quarter-review` - Review quarter

**Career Development (3):**
- `career-setup` - Initialize career system
- `career-coach` - Career coaching
- `resume-builder` - Build resume and LinkedIn

**Project Management (2):**
- `project-health` - Check project status

**Dex System Improvements (3):**

### Files Consolidated
- `level-up.md` → Merged into `dex-level-up`
- `review-ideas.md` → Merged into `dex-backlog`
- `review-backlog.md` → Merged into `dex-backlog` (duplicate removed)

### Key Improvements

1. **Proper YAML Frontmatter**
   - Every skill now has `name`, `description`, and `disable-model-invocation` fields
   - Claude can see when to use each skill based on descriptions
   - Better discoverability and automatic invocation

2. **Side-Effect Protection**
   - Skills with side effects have `disable-model-invocation: true`:
     - `setup`, `reset`, `demo` - System changes
     - `career-setup` - Initial setup only
   - These can only be invoked by you (not Claude)

3. **Future-Ready**
   - Skills support additional features:
     - Supporting files (templates, examples, scripts)
     - Context forking (run in isolated subagent)
     - Tool restrictions
     - Custom models
   - Easy to extend as needed

4. **Standards Compliant**
   - Follows Agent Skills open standard
   - Works across AI tools that support the standard
   - Consistent with Anthropic's patterns

## Documentation Updates

Updated these files to reference `.claude/skills/`:
- ✅ `CLAUDE.md` - Main system docs
- ✅ `CHANGELOG.md` - Migration entry
- ✅ `06-Resources/Dex_System/Dex_System_Guide.md` - System guide
- ✅ `.claude/skills/dex-improve/SKILL.md` - Self-reference
- ✅ `.claude/skills/dex-backlog/SKILL.md` - Self-reference
- ✅ `.claude/skills/dex-level-up/SKILL.md` - Self-reference
- ✅ `.claude/skills/README.md` - Created overview

## Backward Compatibility

The `.claude/commands/` folder is **preserved temporarily** for verification. According to Anthropic:

> Files in `.claude/commands/` still work and support the same frontmatter. Skills are recommended since they support additional features.

You can safely delete `.claude/commands/` once you've verified all skills work correctly.

## Testing

All skills are immediately available. Test with:
- `/daily-plan` - Try a core workflow skill
- `/dex-demo on` - Try a system control skill
- `/dex-level-up` - Try a discovery skill

## Next Steps

1. **Test the skills** - Run a few to verify they work

4. **Create new skills** - Follow the pattern in existing skills
