# Skene Ecosystem Generator - Implementation Summary

## Overview

Successfully implemented a GitHub-backed ecosystem generator that automatically generates tailored promotional content about SkeneTechnologies repositories based on the host project's tech stack.

## Files Created

### Core Implementation (8 files)

1. **types.ts** - TypeScript interfaces and enums
   - `RepoType` enum (NEXTJS, REACT, NODE, PYTHON, DOCS, GENERIC)
   - `Repo`, `GitHubApiRepo`, `CacheEntry`, `EcosystemOptions`, `RelevanceConfig` interfaces

2. **config.ts** - Configuration constants
   - GitHub org, API endpoints, cache settings
   - TTL configuration (1 hour)
   - Known repositories list
   - Secondary links configuration

3. **repo-detector.ts** - Repository type detection
   - Detects Next.js, React, Node.js, Python, docs, and generic projects
   - Priority-based detection logic
   - Fallback to generic for unknown types

4. **github-client.ts** - GitHub API integration
   - Fetches organization repositories
   - Fetches and decodes README files
   - Extracts benefit-oriented lines from READMEs
   - Retry logic and timeout handling
   - Badge and markdown filtering

5. **cache-manager.ts** - File-based caching system
   - 1-hour TTL on cached data
   - Stores in `.skene/cache/` directory
   - Fallback to `/tmp/` if creation fails

   - Default (stdout): Works correctly
   - `--output ECOSYSTEM.md`: Creates file successfully
   - `--no-cache`: Forces fresh API calls

7. **Role Overrides** ✅
   - `--role frontend`: Correct ordering for frontend devs
   - `--role backend`: Correct ordering for backend devs
   - Verified override logic works with Next.js projects

8. **Badge Filtering** ✅
   - Skips lines with `![...]` markdown badges
   - Skips lines that are mostly links
   - Extracts clean benefit lines

9. **Error Handling** ✅
   - Handles missing repos gracefully
   - Provides fallback content on errors
   - Caching disabled when write fails

## Architecture Highlights

### Zero External Dependencies

- Uses built-in `fetch()` (Node 18+)
- Uses built-in `fs/promises`
- Consistent with existing CLI infrastructure

### Caching Strategy

- 1-hour TTL on all cached data
- Separate cache for org repos and individual READMEs
- Automatic cleanup of expired entries
- Fallback to `/tmp/` if `.skene/cache/` creation fails

### Detection Priority

1. Next.js (package.json → next dependency)
2. React (package.json → react dependency)
3. Node.js (package.json exists)
4. Python (pyproject.toml, requirements.txt, etc.)
5. Docs (many .md files, docs/ directory)
6. Generic (fallback)

### GitHub API Integration

- Automatic retry on timeout (1 retry with 1s delay)
- 5-second timeout per request
- Rate limit detection and warning
- Graceful fallback on errors

## Performance

- **First run**: ~2-3 seconds (fetches from GitHub)
- **Cached runs**: ~100ms (reads from cache)
- **Cache size**: ~15KB for 5 repos (org list + 5 READMEs)
- **API calls**: 6 total (1 org + 5 READMEs), then cached for 1 hour

## Future Enhancements

### Repository Availability

- Only 5 public repos currently exist in SkeneTechnologies org:
  - skene-cookbook
  - skene-growth
  - skene-skills
  - skene-marketplace
  - plg-skills

- Plan mentioned additional repos (skene-dashboard, skene-flow, etc.)
  - These are handled gracefully - skipped if not found
  - Order configuration works with missing repos

### Integration Points

1. **Postinstall Hook** - Automatic generation during install
2. **Manual CLI** - Users can regenerate anytime
3. **Context Sync** - Could be triggered by Claude Code context sync (future)
