# Editor Skill

## When to activate
After newsletter is drafted and reviewed, to tighten prose, enhance readability, fix grammar, and refine tone without changing meaning or structure.

## When NOT to use
Do not use this skill for major rewrites or structural changes—those belong in the drafting phase. This skill is for polish and clarity only.

## Instructions

1. **Tighten every section**
   - Cut unnecessary words ("very," "really," "quite," "somewhat")
   - Merge short sentences into stronger ones
   - Remove filler phrases and repetition
   - Target: same message in 10–15% fewer words

2. **Enhance readability**
   - Break long sentences into 2–3 shorter ones
   - Use subheadings to organize dense sections
   - Add transitional phrases between sections
   - Vary sentence length (short, medium, long) for rhythm

3. **Fix grammar and style**
   - Check subject-verb agreement
   - Correct tense consistency
   - Fix punctuation and capitalization
   - Ensure consistent formatting (bold, italics, lists)

4. **Refine tone**
   - Ensure authority without arrogance
   - Keep conversational (use "we," "you," "I")
   - Cut corporate jargon
   - Match tone to newsletter's established voice

5. **Optimize for scanning**
   - Highlight key takeaways in bold
   - Use bullet points for lists
   - Add whitespace between sections
   - Ensure preview text (email client) is compelling

6. **Verify data integrity**
   - No changes to statistics or quotes
   - Maintain context for all claims
   - Preserve attribution for sources

7. **Generate edit summary**
   - Before/after word counts
   - Major edits made (by section)
   - Changes that impact tone or meaning (minimal)
   - Readability improvement score
