# Job Description Skill

## When to activate
- Writing a job posting for any role
- Screening a stack of resumes and identifying top candidates
- Creating interview questions for a specific role
- Drafting an offer letter or rejection email
- Defining what a new hire actually needs to do day-to-day

## When NOT to use
- Legal employment contracts — use an employment lawyer
- Redundancy or termination processes — consult HR/legal
- Enterprise-level HR policy documents

## Instructions

### Write a job description

```
Write a job description for: [job title]
My business: [type and brief description]
Location: [city / remote / hybrid]
Full-time / part-time: [which, and hours]
Salary range: $[X]–$[Y] or [hourly rate] (if you're willing to share)
Must-haves: [3-5 non-negotiable requirements]
Nice-to-haves: [optional skills or experience]
What they'll actually do day-to-day: [describe the main tasks]
Who they'll work with: [who do they report to, who's on the team]
What makes working here good: [culture, perks, growth opportunity]
Tone: [professional / casual / startup-y / warm]
```

### Screen a stack of resumes

```
I'm hiring for [job title]. The key requirements are: [list 3-5 must-haves].
Here are [X] resumes I received. I'll paste each one below.
For each: score them 1-5, summarise their relevant experience in 2 sentences,
and tell me who I should prioritise for interviews.
[paste resumes one by one]
```

### Create interview questions

```
I'm interviewing candidates for [job title].
Key things I need to assess: [list what matters most for this role]
Type of business: [describe]
Create:
- 5 questions to assess relevant skills/experience
- 3 situational questions ("tell me about a time when...")
- 2 culture/values fit questions
- 1 question that will reveal if they're genuinely interested in the role
Also suggest what a "good answer" looks like for each.
```

### Draft an offer letter

```
Write an offer letter for [name], who I'm hiring as [role].
Start date: [date]
Salary/rate: $[X] [per hour/per year]
Hours: [full-time/part-time, specific hours if applicable]
Trial period: [if any — e.g. 3 months]
Any specific terms: [probation period, non-compete, etc.]
My business name: [name]
Tone: [warm but professional]
```

### Draft a rejection email

```
Write a kind but clear rejection email for a candidate who applied for [role].
They: [brief note — e.g. had the skills but less experience than another candidate]
I want to: [leave the door open / close it politely]
Keep it: under 100 words, genuine, not robotic.
```

### Define the role before you post

```
I need to hire someone but I'm not sure exactly what role I need.
Currently I'm struggling with: [describe the biggest pain points]
Things I want to get off my plate: [list]
Budget: $[X]/hour or $[X]/year
Help me figure out: what type of role do I actually need?
What should their title be? What should they not do?
```

## Example

**You say:**
```
I run a small bookkeeping firm (3 people).
I need to hire an admin/client coordinator.
They'd manage scheduling, handle client emails, chase documents,
keep the client database tidy, answer the phone.
Salary: $45,000–$55,000
Must have: organised, good communicator, reliable, knows Google Workspace
Not required but great: bookkeeping knowledge
Tone: professional but friendly — we're a small team, not corporate
```

**Claude writes a complete job posting** with: clear title ("Client Coordinator"), compelling intro paragraph about the firm, role overview in plain English, responsibilities list (8-10 bullet points), requirements split into must-have/nice-to-have, what they'll love about the role, salary range, and a direct application instruction.
