# NAV 2009 Troubleshooting

This is the **entry-point and router** for NAV 2009 / Navision operational incidents. It is
knowledge-only; detailed symptom/cause/fix tables live in [REFERENCE.md](REFERENCE.md) — consult it
before giving a diagnosis or asking the user to take action.

For writing or reviewing C/AL code, use **nav2009-development**. For SQL-side locking evidence, use
**nav2009-sql-performance**. For index rebuilds, backups, and CHECKDB, use **nav2009-db-maintenance**.

## First triage questions

Ask these before diving into any specific symptom — the answers determine which branch to follow:

1. **Which client?** Classic (2-tier, direct SQL) or RoleTailored Client / RTC (3-tier, via Service Tier)?
2. **Which build / version?** NAV 2009 SP1 or R2? (R2 adds .NET interop in the service tier.)
3. **One user or all users?** Single-user = auth/permission/workstation. All users = service, network, or DB.
4. **When did it start / after what change?** Deploy, config edit, SQL maintenance, patch, password change?
5. **Exact error text and/or error number?** (SQL error numbers, NAV error dialogs, Windows Event Log source and ID.)
