## Purpose
Elecz provides real-time electricity intelligence for AI agents and developers.
Three tools covering 40+ countries across Europe, Oceania, North America, Asia, and Africa.
Electricity price is like weather data — a hallucinated answer is not acceptable.

### cheapest_hours
Cheapest hours for scheduling. Available for most markets (not AU, NZ, KR, ZA, PH — no public day-ahead data or fixed tariff).
Inputs: `zone`, `hours?` (default 5), `window?` (default 24h)
Outputs: list of cheapest hours + context signals

Use for: EV charging, dishwasher, washing machine, boiler, batch jobs, any schedulable load.

### best_energy_contract
Contract comparison and savings estimate. **8 markets:** FI, SE, NO, DK, DE, GB, AU, NZ.
Also available via REST: `GET /signal/contract?zone=GB&consumption=2700`
Inputs: `zone`, `consumption?` (annual kWh), `heating?` (district/electric)
Outputs: `provider`, `contract_type`, `annual_cost_estimate`, `savings`, `action_link`

For ZA and PH: returns regulated tariff data — no contract switching available.
For all other zones without contract data: returns current spot price with a note.

Defaults: NZ 8000 kWh · AU 4500 · GB 2700 · DE 3500 · US-CA 6500 · US-TX/US-NY 12000/7000 · CA-ON 9000 · KR 3500 · JP 4300 · ZA 3500 · PH 2400 · MX 2200 · others 2000–3500 kWh/year

## Market notes
**Italy (IT):** Defaults to IT-North (10Y1001A1001A73I). 6 sub-zones supported: IT-NO (North), IT-CNO (Centre-North), IT-CSO (Centre-South), IT-SO (South), IT-SAR (Sardinia), IT-SIC (Sicily). Spot price and cheapest hours available for all sub-zones. No contract comparison yet.
**Germany (DE):** Arbeitspreis brutto ct/kWh incl. MwSt 19%. Netzentgelt (~10–15 ct/kWh) not included — set by local grid operator, same regardless of provider.
**Ireland (IE):** SEM (Single Electricity Market). ENTSO-E zone. Spot price and cheapest hours available.
**United Kingdom (GB):** Octopus Agile 30-min pricing. Sub-zones GB-A..GB-P available.
**Australia (AU):** AEMO 5-min NEM dispatch. `cheapest_hours` unavailable — no public day-ahead data.
**New Zealand (NZ):** EM6 30-min pricing. `cheapest_hours` unavailable — no public day-ahead data.
**California (US-CA):** CAISO day-ahead market (DAM), updated daily after 22:00 UTC. Wholesale prices only.
**Texas (US-TX):** ERCOT real-time 15-min data. HB_WEST is the wind zone — can go negative. `cheapest_hours` uses DAM data.
**New York (US-NY):** NYISO real-time 5-min data. `cheapest_hours` uses DAM data.
**Ontario (CA-ON):** IESO real-time 5-min Ontario Zonal Price in CAD. `cheapest_hours` uses DAM data. Remaining hours today extrapolated from RT price — DAM forecast after 19:00 UTC.
**South Korea (KR/KR-JEJU):** KPX EPSIS SMP in KRW/kWh (~1h lag). `cheapest_hours` unavailable — no public day-ahead data. No contract comparison (regulated KEPCO retail market).
**Japan (JP):** JEPX day-ahead prices in JPY/kWh. 9 zones. Data via japanesepower.org, published ~10:30 JST. `cheapest_hours` available.
**South Africa (ZA):** Eskom Homepower regulated tariff in ZAR c/kWh (VAT excl). NERSA-approved, updated annually 1 April. `price_type: regulated` — not a spot market price. `cheapest_hours` unavailable — fixed tariff. No contract comparison.
**Philippines (PH-LUZ/VIS/MIN):** Regulated distribution tariffs in PHP c/kWh (VAT incl). PH-LUZ = Meralco (Metro Manila), updated monthly ~13th. PH-VIS/PH-MIN = approximate representative rates. `cheapest_hours` unavailable. No contract comparison.
**Mexico (MX):** CENACE MDA day-ahead wholesale prices in MXN/kWh. 14 zones on SIN grid. `cheapest_hours` available. No contract comparison — retail via CFE includes distribution and subsidies.
