# Security Audit

> Audit code for security vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10, injection, auth issues, secrets exposure). Produces a severity-ranked findings report. Use when asked to security-review code, a PR, or a module.

## Vulnerability Coverage

Check for these vulnerability classes (based on OWASP Top 10 + common issues):

### A01 — Broken Access Control
- Missing authorization checks before sensitive operations
- Horizontal privilege escalation (user A accessing user B's data)
- IDOR (Insecure Direct Object Reference) — IDs predictable and unchecked
- JWT/session validation gaps

### A02 — Cryptographic Failures
- Sensitive data in logs, responses, or URLs
- Weak hashing (MD5, SHA1 for passwords — must use bcrypt/argon2)
- Missing encryption in transit (HTTP instead of HTTPS)
- Secrets hardcoded or in version control

### A03 — Injection
- SQL injection (string concatenation in queries)
- NoSQL injection (unvalidated operators like `$where`, `$regex`)
- Command injection (user input in exec/spawn calls)
- XSS (unescaped user content rendered in HTML)
- Path traversal (`../` sequences in file operations)

### A04 — Insecure Design
- Security decisions made in the wrong layer (auth in the client)
- Mass assignment (accepting all fields from user input without allowlist)
- Missing rate limiting on authentication endpoints

### A05 — Security Misconfiguration
- Debug mode or verbose errors in production
- Default credentials or empty passwords
- Overly permissive CORS (`*`)
- Missing security headers (CSP, HSTS, X-Frame-Options)

### A07 — Identification and Authentication Failures
- Weak password policies
- Missing brute-force protection
- Insecure password reset flows (predictable tokens)
- Long-lived tokens without expiry

### A09 — Security Logging Failures
- No audit trail for sensitive operations (login, data export, admin actions)
- Logging sensitive data (passwords, tokens, PII)

## Rules
- Cite the exact line for every finding
- Provide a working fix, not just "sanitize input"
- Do not flag theoretical issues without evidence in the code
- If a dependency version is visible, check if it has known CVEs
- Never output actual secret values found in code — redact them as `<REDACTED>`
