About SkillMD

SkillMD is a free, open registry of AI Agent Skills: 25,790 SKILL.md files that teach agents like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex to do specific tasks well. Search by task, category, or agent, then install with one CLI command, through the hosted MCP server, or by copying the file.

What we list

A skill is a SKILL.md file: YAML frontmatter plus Markdown instructions an agent loads on demand. SkillMD indexes skills from official publishers and the community, keeps them attributed to their authors under their original licenses, and makes every one installable in 60+ agents. Everything is free: searching, saving, installing, and publishing.

How listing works

Anyone can submit a skill. Before a skill becomes publicly visible it passes an automated safety review, and its verdict is shown on its page together with capability flags (docs-only, executes scripts, makes network calls, reads secrets). Independent open-source scanners audit skills as well, and their results appear on each skill's page. SkillMD never runs a skill's scripts for you; we recommend reading any skill before installing it. If a listed skill looks wrong or unsafe, use the report button on its page.

What the verified badge means

The verified checkmark marks skills from official, vetted first-party publishers such as Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and Hugging Face. It identifies the publisher; the per-skill safety review is separate and applies to every public skill. Details: What is an Agent Skill?

Open by default

The SKILL.md format is open, the registry API is public and unauthenticated (api.skillmd.com/v1), the site publishes llms.txt and per-agent guides for machine readers, and the skillmds CLI and MCP server are on npm. Live registry numbers are on the stats page.
