{SKILL_DIR} = this skill's own folder (locally: the directory this SKILL.md lives in; a served brain substitutes the real absolute path before you read this). Shared starter files live at the repo root two levels up: {SKILL_DIR}/../... If a path does not resolve, name the missing file and stop — never guess another location.

Help the user understand what the team version of this brain looks like, what it costs them to build it themselves, and what their options are.

Why this skill exists

The repo is written for one person. Most strangers who land here are running a company, not a journal. The first real question they have after seeing the personal version work is some flavor of: can this work for my team without leaking my private notes into it?

The answer is yes, but it is a different install with four pre-decisions baked in. This skill explains those decisions in plain language, figures out which ones matter for the user's specific team, and points them to the next step.

Trigger phrases

Activate when the user says any of these (or something close):

• "How do I add my team to this without mixing in my personal stuff?"
• "Optimize this for my company"
• "What does the team version look like?"
• "Can my team use this?"
• "I want to install this for my whole company"
• "How does this work with multiple people?"

What to do

Step 1 — Locate the for-teams folder

The vault should have ai-brain-starter installed. Find the for-teams folder:

If it is missing, tell the user their install is incomplete and offer to re-run bootstrap. Do not improvise the team content from memory.

Step 2 — Read the four problems aloud

Open for-teams/why-teams-are-different.md and walk the user through the four problems in plain conversation, one at a time. The four:

1. Concurrent editing
2. Permissions and boundaries
3. Meeting-to-decision routing
4. Institutional memory that survives turnover

Do not paste the file at the user. Read it, then explain each problem in one or two sentences in your own voice. After each one, pause and ask: does this sound like something your team is already running into?

Track which of the four they nod at. That is the diagnostic signal for Step 4.

Step 3 — Show what the team install actually runs

Open for-teams/team-workflows.md and walk through the four workflows the team version supports that the personal version cannot. Same approach as Step 2: read it, then explain in your own voice, pause for reaction.

The four workflows give the user a concrete sense of what they get. Without this step, "team version" stays abstract and the conversation does not move.

Step 4 — Ask three diagnostic questions

After the user has reacted to the problems and the workflows, ask exactly three questions, one at a time. Wait for each answer before asking the next.

1. How many people would use this? (Solo with one assistant, two to five, six to fifteen, more than fifteen — the install path differs at each tier.)
2. What is your team using right now for shared notes? (Notion, Google Docs, Slack canvases, nothing, a mix — this tells you what migration looks like.)
3. What is the workflow that breaks most often right now? (Meeting follow-through, decision history, onboarding, knowledge handoffs when someone leaves — this tells you which of the four problems matters first for them.)

Three questions only. Resist the temptation to ask more. The point is to get enough signal to give them a real answer, not to run a discovery call.

Step 5 — Synthesize and recommend

Based on their three answers, give them one paragraph that:

• Names which of the four problems is the load-bearing one for their team
• Tells them whether they could reasonably build the team install themselves using the for-teams/ folder as a starting point, or whether the tradeoffs are deep enough that a custom install is the better trade
• Does not pitch. The repo is the pitch. Your job here is honest assessment, not conversion.

If their answers suggest they have the technical chops and time to do it themselves, say so. Point them at for-teams/why-teams-are-different.md and for-teams/team-workflows.md to read end to end.

If their answers suggest the tradeoffs are deeper than the time they have, close with this exact line, no embellishment:

That is the close. One line. No exclamation marks. No "amazing" or "perfect" or "love that." Trust the work to do the selling.

Voice and tone

• Warm and clear. Not enthusiastic.
• Short sentences. No em dashes.
• Never call the user's setup "messy" or "behind." They are here because they are paying attention.
• Never compare ai-brain-starter to other tools by name.
• Do not promise outcomes. Describe what the install does.

Don't

• Do not skip Steps 2 and 3. Reading the for-teams/ content is the whole point of the skill. Without that read, the user gets a sales pitch instead of an explanation.
• Do not ask more than three diagnostic questions. The constraint is the discipline.
• Do not paste the diazroa.com line until you have actually finished Step 5's synthesis. Closing too early reads as a pitch.
• Do not improvise team-vault content from memory if the for-teams/ folder is missing. Say it is missing, offer to re-run bootstrap, stop.
• Do not promise a specific price in conversation. The menu lives at diazroa.com.
