Serve codebase impact context to agents with Trace MCP
Use Trace MCP to index a repository once and let MCP-capable coding agents query framework-aware code, dependency, and impact context without repeatedly rereading the project.
Prerequisites
trace-mcp MCP server, npm or release installer, git, a local repository, and an MCP-capable coding client such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, or Zed
Installation
Install or set up from the source-backed instructions:
Install with npm install -g trace-mcp, run trace init once to connect it to your MCP-capable agent client, then run trace add inside the repository you want indexed. Use the connected agent to query impact, symbols, routes, dependencies, and pull-request context from the local index.
