Azure Static Web Apps

Azure Static Web Apps

Expert guidance for deploying static sites and serverless APIs.

Create App

# Create from GitHub
az staticwebapp create \
  --name mystaticwebapp \
  --resource-group myResourceGroup \
  --source https://github.com/myorg/myapp \
  --branch main \
  --app-location "/" \
  --api-location "api" \
  --output-location "dist" \
  --login-with-github

# Create standalone
az staticwebapp create \
  --name mystaticwebapp \
  --resource-group myResourceGroup \
  --location eastus2 \
  --sku Standard

API Functions

Python API

# api/products/__init__.py
import azure.functions as func
import json

def main(req: func.HttpRequest) -> func.HttpResponse:
    products = [
        {"id": 1, "name": "Product A"},
        {"id": 2, "name": "Product B"}
    ]

    return func.HttpResponse(
        json.dumps(products),
        mimetype="application/json"
    )

Node.js API

// api/products/index.js
module.exports = async function (context, req) {
    const products = [
        { id: 1, name: "Product A" },
        { id: 2, name: "Product B" }
    ];

    context.res = {
        body: products,
        headers: {
            'Content-Type': 'application/json'
        }
    };
};

API with Database

# api/products/__init__.py
import azure.functions as func
import os
from azure.cosmos import CosmosClient

def main(req: func.HttpRequest) -> func.HttpResponse:
    client = CosmosClient.from_connection_string(os.environ["COSMOS_CONNECTION"])
    container = client.get_database_client("mydb").get_container_client("products")

    products = list(container.read_all_items())

    return func.HttpResponse(
        json.dumps(products),
        mimetype="application/json"
    )
