GitHub Repository Management

Create, clone, fork, configure, and manage GitHub repositories. Each section shows gh first, then the git + curl fallback.

1. Cloning Repositories

Cloning is pure git — works identically either way:

2. Creating Repositories

With gh:

3. Forking Repositories

With gh:

Note: For secrets, gh secret set is dramatically simpler. If setting secrets is needed and gh isn't available, recommend installing it for just that operation.

9. Downloading Release Assets

PITFALL — asset names are NOT guessable. Always query the API first. Files like codex-x86_64-pc-windows-msvc.zip may not exist; the real name could be codex-x86_64-pc-windows-msvc.exe.zip. The API returns exact names + sizes.

PITFALL — GitHub downloads are extremely slow from China servers (~14KB/s direct). Use a mirror proxy prefix: ghfast.top/https://github.com/... → ~2.5MB/s.

Many releases ship install.ps1 or install.sh. These auto-detect arch and download the right binary:
