Restaurant Morning Briefing

Overview

Produces a morning briefing for restaurant managers with a 7-day demand outlook, staffing plan, and prep guidance, all derived from live weather data, local event schedules, and competitor activity. Recommendations use heuristic demand multipliers (not statistical forecasting or ML models). Designed to run daily, manually or via a scheduled agent.

Workflow

Success = the manager can read the briefing in under 3 minutes and take immediate action on staffing and prep decisions.

<Definition - Demand Multiplier> A factor (0.5x to 2.0x) representing expected customer volume relative to a normal day. Driven by:

<Definition - Methodology> This skill does NOT use statistical forecasting, machine learning, or historical sales data. All recommendations are derived using a deterministic heuristic:

1. Weather data is retrieved via web search (from third-party weather services).
2. Local events are retrieved via web search (event listings, venue calendars).
3. Competitor activity is retrieved via web search (news, promotions, openings/closings).
4. Demand multiplier is calculated by summing: day-of-week baseline + weather modifier + event modifier + competitor modifier (see <Definition - Demand Multiplier> for exact ranges).
5. Labor and prep recommendations are derived by applying the demand multiplier to the user-provided baseline (avg_covers_per_day) using fixed adjustment tables.

The term "outlook" in this skill means a heuristic estimate based on known inputs (weather reports + scheduled events + day-of-week patterns), not a predictive model. Accuracy depends on the quality of the web search results and the applicability of the heuristic ranges to the specific restaurant. </Definition - Methodology>

   • Extract: any notable competitor openings, closings, or promotions nearby

   Validate: Search completed (even if no competitor news found). If fails: Note "no competitor activity detected" and use 0.0x competitor modifier for all days.

5. [Agent] Calculate demand multipliers for each of the 7 days using the formula in <Definition - Demand Multiplier>. Combine weather impact, event boosts, competitor effects, and day-of-week baselines.

   Validate: A numeric demand multiplier between 0.5x and 2.0x calculated for each of the 7 days. If fails: Default to day-of-week baseline only for any day where weather/event data is missing.

6. [Agent] Generate the Labor Plan:

   • For each day, recommend FOH and BOH percentage adjustments based on the demand multiplier
   • Flag days that need call-in staff on standby (demand multiplier > 1.3x)
   • Note any days where reduced staffing is advisable (demand multiplier < 0.8x)

   Validate: All 7 days have FOH and BOH percentage adjustments stated. If fails: For any day missing a labor recommendation, default to "baseline staffing (no change)."

7. [Agent] Generate the Inventory Guidance:

   • For each day, recommend prep level adjustments by category (proteins, produce, beverages, dry goods, specialty)
   • Call out specific items to order more of (e.g., "extra ice and cold beverages" for heat wave)
   • Flag items at risk of waste on low-demand days

   Validate: All 5 inventory categories have a recommendation for at least early-week and weekend periods. If fails: Provide percentage-level guidance ("prep +20%") without item-specific detail, and note that cuisine-specific recommendations require manual adjustment.

8. [Agent] Compile the full briefing using <Template - Morning Briefing> format. Present to the user.

   Validate: Output contains all required template sections (Weather & Demand, Events, Labor Plan, Inventory, Key Risks) with no empty tables. If fails: Present whatever sections are complete and list the missing sections with an explanation of why data was unavailable.

   • Note any viral or trending posts (high engagement)

   Validate: At least 3 reviews/mentions categorized with sentiment and at least one theme identified. If fails: Present raw review excerpts without sentiment analysis and note that insufficient data prevents pattern identification.

   Validate: Summary includes at least Sentiment Score, one praise item, and one complaint/area for improvement. If fails: Provide a minimal summary with whatever data is available and note which sections lacked sufficient data.

   Validate: Strategy rules correctly mapped to each day's demand multiplier category. If fails: Default to "normal day" strategy for any day where the multiplier is unknown.
