Benchmark-Email Blog to Email: The One-Idea Repurposing Pipeline

The core belief: an email is not a smaller blog post. It's a different thing.
Run the steps in order. Each step produces something the user can review before you move on — never collapse this into one giant generation.
Inputs
Ask for (or find in the conversation):
- The blog post — a URL to fetch, or pasted text.
- Brand voice (optional but valuable) — writing rules, banned words, tone notes, or 1–2 sample emails in the user's voice. If none provided, default to: warm, plainspoken, short sentences, no marketing jargon ("unlock," "leverage," "game-changer," "in today's fast-paced world" are banned).
- Where the email links back to — the post URL, so the email can send readers to the full piece.
Do not ask more than one round of questions. Sensible defaults beat interrogation.
Step 1 — Analyze before writing (the insight memo)
Read the full post. Do NOT draft anything yet. Produce a structured insight memo:
- Main theme: 1–2 sentences.
- Key takeaways: 3–5, each 1–2 sentences, actionable or surprising.
- Surprising statistics: exact figures with brief context.
- Quotable lines: direct quotes, attributed. Quotes from humans must survive verbatim into the final email — never paraphrase a person's words.
- Actionable advice: practical recommendations a reader can apply this week.
- 2–3 headline angles for the email (see the title rule in Step 2).
The grounding rule: nothing goes in the memo that isn't in the source. The email will be written from this memo, so this rule is what prevents the email from inventing claims the post never made. If the post has no statistics, the memo has no statistics.
Show the memo to the user (briefly) before drafting, or include it above the draft.
Step 2 — Write the one-idea email
Draft the email from the memo only. Rules:
One idea, not the whole post. Pick the single most surprising or useful claim in the memo and build the entire email around it. Everything else stays on the blog. The email exists to make the reader want the rest — it is a gift with a doorway, not a summary.
Never reuse the blog title. A title tag is written for a search engine. A subject line is written for a person having a normal day. Real example from our own pipeline: the post "Tips for Discovering Your Target Audience" became the email "'Everyone' Isn't Your Audience: Why Getting Specific Actually Grows Your Email List." Reframe around the tension or payoff of the one idea.
Structure:
- Subject line (plus 2 alternates): short, specific, curious, never promising what the email can't pay off.
- Preview text (under ~90 characters) that extends the subject line rather than repeating it.
- A hook intro (2–3 sentences) that names the reader's real situation — no "welcome to our newsletter."
- The one idea, developed in scannable form: short paragraphs (1–3 sentences), bolded takeaway lines or a short list, one stat or quote from the memo as proof.
- 2–3 actionable takeaways the reader can apply immediately.
- One CTA linking to the full post, written contextually ("see the full framework," not "read more").
Voice: first person or warm second person, contractions, active voice, banned words honored, no filler. Readable in under 3 minutes.
Step 3 — The rules editor (minimal-edit pass)
Re-read the draft against the brand voice rules with editor discipline: make only the edits a rule requires, and change nothing stylistic. Do not restructure, do not add ideas, do not "improve" sentences that break no rule. This pass exists to enforce rules, not taste. If no brand rules were provided, check only: banned jargon, paragraph length, one CTA, quotes verbatim, no claims absent from the memo.
Step 4 — The distribution extras
Deliver alongside the email:
- A one-line teaser blurb for announcing the email on social (the sharpest tension line from the piece, e.g. "Your social media reach is borrowed. Here's how to build an email list you actually own.").
- A test-kitchen suggestion: if the user publishes on LinkedIn or another social channel, recommend posting 3–4 repurposed editions publicly first and emailing only the best performer. The list should never get a guess — it should get the winner of a public test.
Step 5 — Human owns the send
End every delivery with this reminder, adapted naturally: the draft goes into your email platform, a person reviews it and hits send — the AI never touches the button. Five minutes of human review is the entire cost of this system. And after sending: feed the results back — tell Claude the subject line and its open rate next time, so winning patterns get reused and losers get retired.

Deliver as one organized response or file: insight memo (compact) → email draft (subject + alternates, preview text, body) → teaser blurb → test-kitchen note → send checklist. If the user wants to run this weekly, suggest they keep a simple list of posts and results, and bring the last email's stats to each new run.
