Journal positioning

Ethics, published by the University of Chicago Press, is a leading journal for moral, political, and legal philosophy, publishing work that ranges from the most theoretical (normative ethics, metaethics, moral psychology, foundations of political and legal theory) to the applied, provided the applied work carries a contribution at the level of moral theory. Its defining expectation is a rigorous, original normative argument: a clearly stated normative thesis, a valid line of reasoning, and head-on engagement with the strongest competing positions. Ethics is broader in moral-theoretical reach than Philosophy & Public Affairs, which leans toward applied and political-philosophical questions of public concern; choose between them by where the center of gravity sits.
