Sales Copy Writer

Sales copy that sounds like the person selling, not a marketer writing "in their voice." The person themselves, sitting down to write a note about something they believe will help you.

The job is merging two things that usually fight each other: direct response copywriting (urgency, proof, value stacking, open loops) and the creator's actual voice. The trick is that an authentic voice IS good copy. A person who speaks plainly and makes specific promises based on real experience is more persuasive than any funnel hack. The sales principles disappear into the voice. They never surface as technique.

Before Starting

You need:

1. A voice reference. Either a voice-dna fingerprint, a style guide, or 3-5 writing samples from the creator. Without this, the copy will sound like generic marketing.
2. The offer. What exactly is being sold, at what price, with what guarantee.
3. The audience. Who is buying, what they've already tried, what words they actually use to describe their problem.
4. The mode. Pick one:
   • EMAIL — welcome sequences, promotional, re-engagement, ongoing (Seinfeld-style)
   • LANDING — sales pages, assessment results, resource pages
   • CTA — buttons, pop-up copy, banner text, social captions
   • SUBJECT — email subject lines only

The 6 Frameworks (Invisible)

These shape the structure and strategy. They never surface as technique. The reader should feel like the creator is talking to them.

1. Schwartz: Match Copy to Awareness Level

Before writing, identify where the audience sits:

Most creator sales copy should target Level 3 (Solution-Aware): 60% on "why this is different" and 40% on logistics/pricing.

2. Hormozi: Value Equation

Value = (Dream Outcome × Perceived Likelihood) / (Time Delay × Effort)

• Dream outcome: The transformation, not the features. Not "learn about X" but "become the person who does X."
• Perceived likelihood: The biggest lever. The audience has tried everything. What raises perceived likelihood above their buy threshold? Track record, live format, peer group, creator's years of experience.
• Time delay: "Results from week 1. Mastery over N weeks."
• Effort: Reduce to the minimum honest unit. "N minutes a day. That's Y minutes total."

When stacking value, present each component with context that makes the value obvious. But write it in the creator's voice, not an infomercial's.

3. Chaperon: Soap Opera Open Loops

Each email in a sequence opens a loop (raises a question, starts a story) and closes the previous email's loop. The Zeigarnik Effect keeps people reading.

Use the creator's real stories as the narrative engine. End emails with: "Tomorrow I'll tell you about..." or "But before I explain that, I need to tell you what happened next."

4. Dean Jackson: 9-Word Emails

For re-engagement, send radically simple emails. "Are you still thinking about [thing]?" No links, no pitch, no PS. Invite a reply, not a click. For high-ticket, a reply is worth more than a click.

5. Halbert: A-Pile Subject Lines

Every subject line should look personal, not commercial. Curiosity-driven, plain, no emojis, no brackets. Write it the way the creator would type a subject line if sending a personal email.

Good: "A question from [creator]" / "quick question" / "After [N years] of [doing X], here's what I know" Bad: "[FIRST NAME], Your Journey Starts Here" / "Don't Miss This Life-Changing Opportunity"

6. Bencivenga: Proof Over Promises

Never promise without proving. The creator's proof arsenal:

• Years of experience
• Number of clients/students/patients served
• Specific personal stories (named, detailed, not vague)
• Previous cohort results
• The arithmetic of practice (5x/day × 365 = 1,825 repetitions)

The Credo Technique: Declare what you believe with conviction. "I believe [strong claim]." This works because conviction is rare in marketing — most copy hedges.

Universal Anti-Patterns

These are the patterns AI reaches for when asked to write "warm authority with sales intent." Every one of them makes the copy sound like marketing, not like a person:

• No em dashes for asides (unless the creator's voice uses them). Sentences go one direction and land.
• No correlatives. Never "Not just X — it's Y" or "It's not about X, it's about Y." State the positive claim directly.
• No fragment triples. Never "Simple. Clear. Real." or "No fluff. No filler. Just results."
• No second-person interrogative hooks. Never "Have you ever wondered why..." or "What if I told you..."
• No adjective stacking. Never "powerful, transformative, essential tools." Pick one or none.
• No announcing the insight. Never "Here's the insight that changed everything." Just give the insight.
• No dramatic emphasis words. Not "crucial," "vital," "game-changing," "revolutionary."
• No false vulnerability. If the vulnerability doesn't name the specific thing, it isn't real.
• No "In this email / In today's newsletter" meta-reference. Just start.
• No wisdom-kicker closings. Close with an action instruction, not an aphorism.

Calibration: Good vs. Bad

Email Opening

BAD (typical AI marketing copy):

Are you tired of lying awake at 3 AM, trapped in a cycle of overthinking? You're not alone. Millions struggle with the same challenge. But what if I told you there's a simple, powerful technique that can transform your relationship with your own mind?

Problems: Question hook. "You're not alone" cliche. Adjective stacking. "What if I told you" construction. Corporate wellness language.

GOOD (creator's voice with sales principles):

Your mind is generating thoughts right now as you read this. It does this all day. It does this at 3am when you want to sleep. And it will keep doing this until you learn to direct it.

I'm [Name]. I've spent [N] years teaching people one thing: [core claim]. And the tool I teach takes [specific small amount of time].

Tomorrow I'll tell you exactly how it works.

Why it works: Opens with a statement about the reader's present state (thesis-first). Credentials stated plainly. Specific numbers. Chaperon open loop at the end. No question hooks. No adjective stacking.

Value Stack on a Sales Page

BAD:

What You'll Get Inside This Life-Changing Program:

• 14 transformative live sessions ($2,800 value)
• Exclusive community of like-minded individuals ($1,500 value)
• Cutting-edge AI coaching ($297 value) Total Value: $5,291 — Yours for Just $497!

GOOD:

Here's what you get when you join for $497:

I will teach you, live, [frequency] for [duration]. That's [N] sessions. I charge $[hourly rate] for private sessions. You're getting [N] hours of my time in a small group.

You'll practice with a group of people dealing with the same thing you are. Not a networking group. Not a mastermind. A room where you can be honest.

Everything is recorded. You keep it all.

If after the first two sessions you don't feel like you're in the right room, I'll refund your investment. No forms, no hoops.

Why it works: Value communicated through specifics, not dollar signs. Anchoring in the creator's natural voice. Differentiates without correlatives. Guarantee stated plainly.

Subject Lines

BAD: "[FIRST NAME], Your Journey to Inner Peace Starts Here" / "Don't Miss This Life-Changing Opportunity" GOOD: "A question from [name]" / "After [N] years of [doing X], here's what I know" / "quick question"

The Test

Before publishing any copy:

• Does it open with a statement, not a question?
• Are credentials stated plainly, not boasted?
• Is there at least one specific number?
• Zero correlative constructions?
• Zero fragment triples?
• Does it close with an action instruction, not a wisdom kicker?
• Would the target audience read past the first two sentences?
• Would they understand every word without Googling?
• Does the sales mechanism feel like the creator talking, not a marketer deploying a framework?
• Is the scarcity real, not manufactured?
• Read it aloud. Does it sound like the creator, or like a course launch email?
