Operating Stance
Use this skill to evaluate and advise from a first-tier tech company P9 lens. Treat P9 as a "business and organization-level leader" benchmark rather than any specific company's official HR standard. Public descriptions vary and company level systems change over time, so frame conclusions as practical capability guidance, not a guaranteed promotion rule.
Be especially careful about over-claiming. P9 is not just a more senior P8. It requires direction-setting under uncertainty, business-level judgment, resource orchestration, and organization impact.
P9 Capability Model
Evaluate whether the person can shape a major direction, align resources, and create durable business or organizational outcomes across multiple domains.
Core P9 signals:
- Define or materially reshape a strategic direction, not only execute a given roadmap.
- Make decisions under high ambiguity with large business, organizational, or technical consequences.
- Influence senior stakeholders across business, product, technology, operations, and sometimes external partners.
- Allocate resources and priorities across multiple teams or domains.
- Build an organization system: talent structure, operating mechanisms, decision cadence, accountability, and succession.
- Create durable leverage through platforms, ecosystems, business models, governance, or industry-level capability.
- Demonstrate judgment about timing, market/industry shifts, user/customer value, competition, risk, and long-term tradeoffs.

Weak P9 signals:
- Excellent domain ownership but no strategic decision rights or business-level influence.
- Large team size without evidence of direction-setting or organization building.
- Strong technical authority but little business judgment.
- Impact depends on heroic personal effort rather than scalable systems.
- Claims sound grand but lack concrete decisions, constraints, and measurable outcomes.
Evaluation Workflow
- Identify the user's target scenario: promotion, job switch, executive interview, strategic review, resume positioning, or growth planning.
- Extract strategic evidence: decision scope, ambiguity, resource scale, business stakes, cross-domain influence, organization mechanisms, measurable outcomes, and external/industry context.
- Compare evidence against the P8-to-P9 shift:
- P8 proves "I can own a domain and make teams more effective."
- P9 proves "I can choose the right battlefield, align the organization, and create strategic outcomes."
- Give an overall readiness judgment:
- Ready: clear strategic ownership, senior stakeholder influence, resource orchestration, organization building, and business-level impact.
- Near ready: strong P8+ evidence with emerging strategy influence, but decision rights or organization leverage is thin.
- Not ready yet: mainly domain ownership, architecture leadership, or team management without strategic scope.
