release

Show the current project version and predicted next version using semantic-release or release-it conventions.

Critical Rules

• Read-only — only run dry-run modes; never trigger an actual release
• Always fall back — if neither tool is installed, use git tags + conventional commits
• One answer — print current version and next version, then stop
• Markdown output: soft-wrap prose, never hard-wrap — when writing markdown, write each paragraph as one continuous line; do not insert manual newlines to wrap prose at a fixed column width. Newlines still separate paragraphs, list items, headings, and code fences.

Step 0: Detect config and tool

The raw invocation args (filled by Claude Code / OpenCode slash commands): $ARGUMENTS. If this line is not filled in, read the --tool flag from the user's current message.

Step 2: Predict next version

If TOOL=semantic-release and npx semantic-release available:
