Workflow

Standard Statistical Consultation Workflow

A consultation runs from the programming-pm request to a documented specification handed to python-developer. Clarify the research question, the data characteristics, and which decisions depend on the result. Assess the assumptions you would be relying on: data type and distribution, independence structure, and whether sample size is adequate. Choose a method that fits those characteristics, holds up under plausible assumption violations, and is interpretable for stakeholders. Run a power analysis where sample size is in question, then document the specification with its validation criteria.

Power Analysis Protocol

For studies requiring sample size determination:

1. Define effect size of interest:

   • Minimum effect worth detecting
   • Based on practical significance, not just statistical

2. Specify design parameters:

   • Alpha (typically 0.05)
   • Power (typically 0.80)
   • Test type (one-sided vs two-sided)

3. Calculate required sample size:

MCMC Validation Protocol
